A story shared by one of our awesome clients, Kathy & her dog, Beau:

Beau, the Moose, and the Training that Made All the Difference

Beau is a two-year-old rescue dog who completed obedience training last year with Front Range K9 Academy in Wheat Ridge. This spring, I wanted to start taking Beau on mountain walks and hikes where he could safely enjoy the freedom of being off leash while still staying close to me. That led me to enroll in their e-collar training program.

To be honest, I was nervous at first. I worried that e-collar training meant shocking a dog into obedience, and that was absolutely not what I wanted for Beau or our outdoor adventures together.

What I discovered was completely different from what I expected. The training focused on communication, safety, and trust. The collar uses vibration and stimulation to redirect attention, not punish. Meg Poinsett, our trainer, was incredibly patient and compassionate throughout the process. She even had me experience vibration and stimulation myself so I could fully understand what Beau would feel. That immediately put my mind at ease.

Then came the moment when the training truly proved itself.

Shortly after training, I stayed in Grand Lake with Beau. Around 7 p.m., I took him outside to go to the bathroom. He was wearing his e-collar off leash while I carried the remote. We were walking quietly down the street, about 12 feet apart, when Beau suddenly froze and stared intently ahead.

As I walked closer, I realized he was locked eye-to-eye with a very large moose standing near the street. The moose was staring right back at him.

I instantly panicked. I backed away and called Beau to come, but he was completely fixated on the moose and too distracted to respond. At that moment, I used the remote exactly as we had practiced in training. Beau immediately broke his focus, turned away from the moose, trotted directly back to me, and sat calmly in front of me โ€” just as he had been trained to do.

Danger avoided.

That moment changed everything for me. The training didnโ€™t just teach Beau obedience โ€” it gave me confidence, peace of mind, and a safer way for us to enjoy the outdoors together. I now feel much more comfortable taking Beau on off-leash hikes and walks where permitted, knowing we have a reliable way to communicate even in unexpected situations.

I highly recommend the e-collar training at Front Range K9 Academy to anyone who wants a safer, more confident experience with their dog both on and off the trail.

Thanks, Kathy

๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽŠ๐ŸŽ‰And ANOTHER Graduation Alert!๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽŠ๐Ÿพ

There's nothing like a big human smile, an even bigger doggy smile, and a constantly wagging tail!

Huge Congrats to "SAMMY" (3 yr old Lab x Pyrenees) and his mom on their graduation from Front Range K9 NOCO's Core Obedience program with an A+++ score of 99% on their test!

Sammy is a BIG dog, with BIG feelings, who had some stranger-danger about new people, as well as getting over-excited when he sees other dogs on walks. With his size and power, it was vital that Sammy learned to not use that power to drag his owners to Kingdom Come on walks & out in the world.

From the very first lesson, Sammy and his mom impressed me with their quick learning and willingness to do the work. They're still polishing Sammy's skills, but he has turned into an amazing companion.

Can't wait to see him in group classes!

And just like that, we have another Front Range K9 NOCO graduate!

Huge congratulations to "Rigatoni" (6 month old Goldendoodle) and his mom on their graduation from Core Obedience with an A++ score of 97%!

Riggs has been an absolute blast to work with since day one (we started training at the tender age of 12 weeks). He's a super smart, sassy, joyful little guy with amazing work ethic (just like his mom) and charm.

We can't wait to see Riggs continue his training journey in group classes!

THIS. This is why I don't recommend Board and Train unless I personally know the trainer(s).

Even more ironic? The trainers' website touts them as being "Positive Reinforcement, Science Based" trainers. What part of starving your clients' dogs is Positive?

I'll wait.

A HUGE Congratulations to Honey & her mom for graduating from the Core Obedience training program & passing the test with a PERFECT score!

Honey is a year old Husky/German Shepherd mix with lots of energy! Before starting training, Honey pulled on leash & was quick to boredom/impatience with her stays. Honeyโ€™s mom put in the work & can now enjoy her walks with Honey!

Congratulations again to this awesome team!

๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽŠ๐ŸŽ‰Graduation Alert!๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽŠ๐Ÿพ

And ANOTHER Front Range K9 NoCo grad:

Big congratulations go out to "Huck" (2 yr. old Golden Retr.) and his family, including Honorary Graduate, "Bentley" (11 yr. old Golden Retr.) who cheered his younger housemate on throughout training.

Huck is a recently rescued Golden who has some big feelings about loud noises, weather, and anything new in his routine. He started training just a few weeks after he came to live with his new family, and was also having some house soiling woes, along with some pretty serious fear responses.

He's still learning to work through scary new things, but he has come so far in such a short period of time.

In spite of some wind and wet weather going on during his test, Huck scored an awesome 86% (B++!); passing Core Obedience and now we can't wait to see him in group classes!

๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽŠ๐ŸŽ‰Graduation Alert!๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽŠ๐Ÿพ

Huge congratulations to "Nash" (1 yr. old Newfie) and his family on their graduation from our Core Obedience program at Front Range K9 NOCO!

Nash is a young, very boisterous boy with a personality as big as he is. He's working on leash manners, and being polite with his 'big sister' (a 6 yr. old Pyrenees) and his human family.

In spite of his young age and exuberant nature, Nash was on fire ๐Ÿ”ฅfor his test - scoring a cool 94% and an A+!!!

We can't wait to see Nash and the family in group classes next.
