Since 1974, the staff and volunteers of the Humane Society of Walden have provided quality care for many orphaned pets while they wait for their forever homes. Our NO KILL safe haven serves the communities of Montgomery, Walden, Maybrook, Pine Bush, Shawangunk, and Mamakating, but will not turn away pets from across the country in need.

Got (KMR) milk?

Orphaned kittens require intensive care during their first weeks of life. Unlike older kittens, bottle babies cannot regulate their body temperature, eat on their own, or go very long between feedings. Depending on their age, they may need a bottle every 2–4 hours, around the clock.

The good news? With proper nutrition, warmth, and care, these tiny kittens can grow into healthy, happy cats. The challenging first few weeks are critical, and foster families play an essential role in giving vulnerable kittens a second chance.

This little one may be small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, but every ounce gained is a big victory.

Butters has been waiting for a home for just over a year.

In that time, he's watched many of his shelter friends pack their bags and head off to new adventures. Meanwhile, Butters is still here.

This handsome guy is looking for an active home that can keep up with his playful spirit. He's done well with many of the dogs he's met in playgroup at HSW, and if you already have a resident pup, our staff would be happy to arrange a formal meet-and-greet.

Butters wouldn't mind sharing his home with another furry friend. He'd just like a family of his own.

🐱 Thinking about a kitten this summer?

Don't wait until you see one on our website as many of our kittens are adopted before they're ever posted!

These little cuties are currently growing up in foster homes and won't be ready for a few more weeks. Before adoption, kittens need to be about 3 months old / 3 pounds so they can be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.

If a kitten is in your future, now is the perfect time to submit an adoption application. Once processed, our staff can let you know when kittens become available.

💚 Looking for a hiking buddy, running partner, or adventure companion? Meet Clarke.

At just over 1½ years old, Clarke has energy to spare and is always ready for whatever comes next. This handsome guy arrived at HSW as a local stray and, sadly, was never reclaimed. Now he's looking for a family that can keep up with his active lifestyle.

Clarke is a smart, treat-motivated dog who loves to learn and thrives on activity. He's a great walker, enjoys playtime, and is happiest when he's on the move. Whether it's long walks, hikes, training sessions, or backyard games, Clarke is ready to jump right in.

Because of his energy level, Clarke would do best with an active family that can provide plenty of exercise, enrichment, and opportunities to use both his body and his brain.

And let's be honest. He looks pretty dashing in green. 💚

Meet Ralphie!

At just 3 years old and 21 pounds, Ralphie is the perfect-sized companion packed with personality. This handsome poodle mix made his way to New York through one of our southern rescue partners and is now searching for a place to call home.

A car ride? He's already in the passenger seat. A walk around town? Count him in. Time spent with his people? That's his favorite activity of all.

He also happens to have the softest, curly poodle coat that practically begs to be petted.

Ralphie has settled into life in New York beautifully, but what he'd really love is a family of his own.
