Meet our newest Barn Buddy, Valentino! 💓

Valentino the alpaca came to Longmeadow in August 2025 when he was just a year old. He was born in Arkansas and lost his mom unexpectedly at a young age. His herd was all senior alpacas, and he was always getting into mischief because of the age gap. When his family heard via Southeast Llama Rescue that Longmeadow was looking for a friend for their young alpaca, Alpacacino, it was a perfect match! Alpacacino and Valentino are now best friends and love to play rough together. Their human caretakers fondly call them “Al and Val.”

Meet Valentino on Oct. 24 at Wagon Days, and visit the Barn Buddy page on our website to sponsor him 🌟

Last week, our Animal Cruelty Task Force rescued nearly 170 animals from a property in Lawrence County, Missouri.

Of those animals, 61 farm animals were transported here to Longmeadow, including 11 horses, three goats, two ducks and 45 chickens.

Our team worked tirelessly to safely transport the animals to the ranch. Since their arrival, the animals have been receiving veterinary care to assess their condition and address their individual needs.

A disposition hearing to determine permanent custody is scheduled for October 26, 2026. Until the legal process is complete, the animals will remain in our care and will not be available for adoption, nor will they be available to see during public days.

In the meantime, our team is focused on providing the care these animals need and helping them move toward a healthier future.

It is with deep sadness that we share that Twister died unexpectedly on Monday night, September 21. For nearly two decades, Twister helped introduce countless people to Longmeadow Rescue Ranch and its mission of providing rehabilitation and a second chance to abused and neglected horses and other farm animals. With his outgoing personality, intelligence, and unmistakable charm, Twister quickly became a favorite among the Longmeadow team and generations of visitors. His life was an extraordinary example of what is possible when an animal in need is given compassion, care, and the opportunity to thrive.

Twister is deeply mourned by the staff, volunteers and supporters of Longmeadow Rescue Ranch and the Humane Society of Missouri, as well as the many people around the world who came to know and love him 🐴💔

We have an important update about our upcoming Wagon Day events.

Due to staffing shortages, we've made the difficult decision to cancel our Wagon Day on September 12th. Providing the highest level of care for our animals is always our top priority, and at this time we need to focus our resources on their daily care and well-being.

We hope you'll join us instead for our next Wagon Day on October 24th! We can't wait to welcome everyone back for a fun day at the ranch.

If you've been looking for a way to help, we'd love to have you on our volunteer team! Visit our volunteer page to learn more and sign up: https://longmeadowrescueranch.org/volunteer/

Thank you for your understanding, support, and for allowing us to put our animals first. We'll see you on October 24th!
