Transport help needed tomorrow, Monday October 19th! 🚨 🐱

Amon has an appt for his (hopefully last) CT scan at AVS (Associated Veterinary Specialists) in Bridgeton tomorrow! He needs to be dropped off between 7-9 am and picked up between 2-5 pm. Is anyone able to transport him from Lemay 63125 to Bridgeton 63044 and back tomorrow?

Look who can stand! We were not sure if Flynn would be able to be strong enough to power through 2 broken legs and a broken pelvis as he mainly drags his back end to get around. But this boy said, “Hold my catnip.” And continues to prove how resilient an 8-week old boy can be.

Go Flynn, go! 💪 Thank you Dr. Schwartz for giving him a new lease on life.

🚨 FINANCIAL CRISIS CONTINUES 🚨

It’s $5 Friday and we’re once again hit with an insurmountable challenge. Our insurance has once again climbed and on the tail of the large bills rent coming up due again ($1500), as a small nonprofit we’re drowning. Unfortunately this is basically the only company that will insure animals and take on animal risks (we’ve shopped around) and they also tried to find other companies for us when they got the quote back with the premium raise and found none. 😩 But insurance is required in this day and age. It is something we will not forgo. If we can’t have insurance, we simply won’t continue to operate. I am imploring you if we’ve helped you in the past to please not scroll past and please skip your morning coffee and send your favorite cat rescue $5 today. It would mean the world to us. I’m feeling extremely disheartened by these extreme expenses. Our friends at Harvester Animal Clinic were able to pin and save poor sweet Flynn’s leg! He is learning how to orient around his little body but we’re so thankful that one obstacle is down. He gets his pins out in 3 weeks. Then we move on to an FHO surgery. This kiddo is so lucky to be alive. ♥️

Flynn is out of the hospital, unfortunately this is far from the start of the easy part. This morning radiology finally got to sit down and take a look at his X-rays. And it was not good news. He found multiple fractures in the pelvis and a fracture of his left rear femoral head. This makes everything much more complicated.

Originally, our plan was simple. We could do an amputation of the front left leg and he would be able to instantly heal and be pain free. Now we have risks and odds added that weren’t there before. Today, we are managing pain. Tomorrow, consulting veterinary teams, surgeons, and hopefully making decisions that are the best fit for Flynn. Saving the front leg takes a lot of complications out of the FHO surgery in the future, but requires a much more solid and skilled surgeon.

All of this is going to require funds. I’m going to put up more links for Shelter Friends who will no doubt help us through this process. Please send Flynn all the prayers and good juju you’ve got!

EVENING UPDATE- So far they found a bad spiral fracture of the humerus and that’s really about it. He’s having some neurological issues of his left side but they aren’t finding really cause for them. They kept him to monitor him. They said they want to possibly dig in to a few other things but they couldn’t really figure out why he was passing bloody urine. I just will be happy for the little guy to have his pain under control. He was very very upset. 🥺🥺

Meet Flynn. Flynn was most likely stuck in an engine and hit by that car when he came out. His whiskers are singed, his paw pad is burned off, his leg is crushed and facing the wrong way and he’s urinating blood. We asked Shelter Friends, Inc. to help and of course they said yes. He’s on his way to VSS. We will update with an amount as soon as we have it. Until then send all the good juju and vibes his way.

All of our cats are f***l PCR tested prior to entering homes. F***l PCR testing is the most sensitive f***l testing available and actually tests the DNA of the f***l matter of the cats. All f***l testing isn’t the same! Ask your shelter or rescue what kind of f***l testing the cat has had before adopting so you can ensure you don’t have any issues with illness entering your home.

This illness is commonly referred to as Giardia. And it is common in cats and kittens especially ones found outdoors but it is also very easily treated. But that’s only if it’s found! And if your cat at home has never been screened for f***l parasites, make sure and have it done at their next yearly well check!

Cats live in nearly 80 million American households, but a new study suggests nearly one out of fifteen cats are infected with a common parasite, and one out of five infected cats can transmit it to humans.

Giardia duodenalis, commonly known as "beaver fever," is a parasite that can infect both humans and animals. The nickname became popular in the 1970s after outbreaks were linked to contaminated water in areas where beavers lived.

Giardia can cause diarrhea up to five times daily, along with other symptoms such as upset stomach and bloating, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
