Meet Dune, a 1 year old Australian Shepherd. Like many dogs his age, he’s working through very normal puppy behaviors including jumping, whining, pulling, chewing, and being a bit pushy.
In this session, we focused on polite greetings and helping Dune stay engaged and calm in a loud, high-energy home environment. With kids playing games like Simon Says nearby, it created the perfect opportunity to practice focus around movement, noise, and excitement. This type of controlled distraction is a great way to build impulse control and teach a dog how to think before reacting.
Next session, we’ll begin transferring these skills outside the home. Building calm focus at home is an important foundation for success on walks, in parks, and in social environments.
