"Raised as a proud Indiana Hoosier, my path to veterinary medicine took a bit of a scenic route. While I didn’t grow up on a farm, I discovered my true calling for large animal medicine during my undergraduate years at Purdue. I followed that passion all the way to the University of Missouri, where I will be earning my Doctorate come May. While I have a deep-seated love for livestock and equine medicine, one of the best parts of this profession is the variety. I truly enjoy the privilege and challenge of caring for our smaller, furry companions as much as our bigger friends. When I’m off the clock, I’m usually out walking with my dog, Pinto, birdwatching, or enjoying the outdoors with my family. I am also a massive foodie, so I enjoy cooking as well as trying new restaurants! I am incredibly excited to be joining the team at Urban Livestock, and I truly look forward to meeting you and your animals in-person!"

Did you know pigs can get sunburned just like people?!

That Arizona sunshine is no joke, and our piggy friends can absolutely end up with painful sunburn, irritated skin, peeling, and even heat stress if they do not have proper protection.

If you have pigs at home, help keep them safe with:
☀️ Plenty of shade
💧 Constant access to fresh water
🛁 Mud or cooling areas since mud acts like their natural sunscreen
🩺 Monitoring for signs of overheating or skin irritation

🐾 Pet Appreciation Week - Staff Pets!🐾

Veterinary medicine isn't just our job, it's our way of life. When we're not caring for your animals, we're busy caring for quite a few of our own!

This week we're celebrating the pets that make our lives brighter every day. From dogs, cats, horses, pigs, and guinea pigs to tortoises, reptiles, and even a few farm animals, our team is lucky to share their lives with some pretty amazing companions.

Featured in this slideshow are:

🐴 Dr. McKinney and Kade's crew, including horses, pigs, dogs, cats, and a whole farm full of chickens, ducks, geese, cows, and more.
🐶 Brittany's two Golden Retrievers, Stanley and Georgia, along with her guinea pigs, Doug and Gary.
🐾 Katie's husky duo, Leila and rescue husky mix Lacey.

We have three adorable Terrier-Chihuahua mix puppies looking for their forever homes!

🐶 One long-haired male
🐶 Two short-haired females

These siblings were surrendered along with their parents when their owner was no longer able to care for them. While we're sad to see them lose their home, we're excited to help them find loving families where they can thrive.

🐾🩷🩷 DOUBLE THE FUN, DOUBLE THE LOVE! 🩷🩷🐾

These two adorable girls are looking for their forever homes!

Approximately 8 weeks old, these cattle dog mix puppies were brought to us after being found wandering with a third puppy. Unfortunately, no owner was located, so now they're searching for families of their own.

✔️ Started on flea and tick prevention
✔️ First DHPP vaccine completed
✔️ Started on deworming
✔️ Ready to begin their next adventure with a loving family

For cattle dog mixes, these girls have been surprisingly calm and easygoing so far. They are curious, affectionate, and eager to learn. Their intelligent nature is already shining through, making them highly trainable and fun companions for families willing to invest time in raising a puppy.

🎾 Young enough to bond closely with their new families

June 9 is World Pet Memorial Day ❤️🐾

Today, we pause to remember the pets who left paw prints on our hearts forever.

The wagging tails that greeted us at the door.
The tiny paws that made our house feel like home.
The quiet companionship, the silly habits, the unconditional love.

Losing a pet is one of the hardest goodbyes because they are never just animals. They are family, best friends, comfort during hard days, and part of our stories in ways words can never fully explain.

While we miss them deeply here, we like to think they are all somewhere sunny, healthy, happy, and patiently waiting to see us again ❤️🌈🐾

Today we honor the pets who are deeply missed but never forgotten.

Meet ChiChi!

This handsome little guy is an approximately 1-year-old neutered Chihuahua mix who is looking for a family to call his own.

Unlike many of our recent rescue pups, ChiChi was previously owned and surrendered. While we don't know all of the details of his past, we do know that he is an incredibly sweet dog who is ready for a fresh start.

ChiChi has been a favorite around the clinic thanks to his friendly personality and affectionate nature. He enjoys attention, likes being around people, and has done wonderfully with the children he's met.

Like many dogs, he can be protective of his food and would benefit from a family that understands and respects his space during mealtime.

Otherwise, ChiChi is a well-mannered little companion who is ready to settle into a loving home. He's already mastered some of the basics, making the transition into his forever family even easier.

Meet Cookie Dough!

This sweet girl is approximately 6 months old and is looking for the forever family she deserves.

Cookie Dough was found abandoned, severely underweight, and struggling to survive on her own. Since coming into our care, she has made an incredible transformation. With plenty of meals, love, and patience, she has gained weight beautifully and is now healthy, happy, and ready to find a home of her own.

✔️ Started on DHPP vaccine series
✔️ Dewormed
✔️ On flea, tick, and heartworm prevention
✔️ Great with kids
✔️ Good with cats
✔️ Good with other dogs

Like many animals that have experienced hunger, Cookie Dough sometimes hides extra food for later. We suspect this habit may continue for a while until she fully realizes that she will never have to worry about her next meal again. 💛

When she was found, Cookie Dough had an injury to her right eye. The injury has been treated, but her eye will never be completely normal. The good news is that it does not bother her, slow her down, or affect her ability to enjoy life.

Despite everything she's been through, Cookie Dough remains loving, gentle, and full of joy. She is proof that a difficult start doesn't define the rest of your story.

Now all she needs is a family to call her own.
