🐾 Continued Education = Better Patient Care 🐾
At Veterinary Specialty Hospital, we believe that learning never stops. Veterinary medicine is constantly advancing, and we are committed to making sure our team has opportunities to continue developing their skills, refreshing techniques, and staying current with the best medicine possible for our patients.
Recently, our hospital hosted a hands-on wet lab training where members of our team were able to practice and strengthen both new and familiar skills, including:
🩺 Intraosseous (IO) catheter placement
🩺 Central line catheter placement
🩺 Sampling catheter placement
🩺 Different suturing techniques
🩺 Nasal oxygen line placement
🩺 NG/NE feeding tube placement
For some team members, these were new skills. For others, it was an important opportunity to refresh techniques they may not use every day.
Just four days later, that training was put into action.
When a critically ill patient needed a central line, Dr. Mendlowits and ICU Technician Valerie were able to tag-team the procedure, using the skills they had just practiced during the wet lab to successfully place the catheter and continue providing the advanced care their patient needed.
Moments like this are exactly why continued education and hands-on training are so important to us. We never want to stop learning, improving, or preparing for the next patient who may need us.
