Join us in making a difference one paw at a time. Nevada Humane Society (NHS) is a charitable, non-profit organization founded in 1932. Our mission is to bring people and animals together to create a no-kill community in Northern Nevada. We provide shelter and care to homeless pets, adoption services, low-cost public spay/neuter and vaccination services, pet food assistance and other services for

our community. We encourage you to visit our website for the latest shelter news, events, Happy Tails, and information on our adoptable shelter pets. https://nevadahumanesociety.org

When Washoe County Regional Animal Services rescued 83 cats from a two-bedroom apartment, we stepped in to help give these cats a second chance.

We transferred the majority of the cats into our care, where they received spay/neuter surgeries, medical care and everything they needed to prepare for adoption. Many have since found loving homes, giving them the fresh start they deserve. ❤️

This is why spaying and neutering matters. It helps prevent unplanned litters, saves lives and keeps space available in our shelters for other pets who need a second chance.

At NHS, we offer low-cost spay and neuter services for pets in our community. Visit our website to learn more and book an appointment. 🐱❤️

A big thank you to Pacifico Beer for helping us make a difference for pets in need! ❤️🐾

Through a generous matching gift of up to $5,000, Pacifico is helping double the impact of donations to Nevada Humane Society and provide lifesaving care, support and second chances to pets in our community.

We’re incredibly grateful for Pacifico’s generosity and partnership in helping more pets get the care and loving homes they deserve. 🐶🐱🐰

UPDATE- BASIL HAS FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME 🐾 Meet Basil!🐱❤️

Our Pet of the Week this week is a sweet 6 year-old male. Basil loves attention and hanging out with his favorite people.

One of Basil’s favorite activities includes making biscuits and lounging around the house. He would do great in a relaxed home where he can warm up at his own pace and feel comfortable exploring the home.

Basil is very sweet and loving, and he would make anybody lucky enough to adopt him very happy.

Come meet Basil at our Reno campus today!❤️

Happy Metrics Monday! 🐾

Population & Capacity
As of 7pm Sunday, August 30th, we have 381 animals in our care – nine more animals from the previous week. We have 34 at our Carson Campus, 157 at our Reno Campus, and 190 in the care of our foster volunteers. The Carson Campus dog kennels are at 21% capacity, and the Reno Campus dog kennels are at 53% capacity.

Intakes
194 animals came into our campuses last week. NHS received 64 48 Owner/Guardian Surrenders (16 less animals from the previous week), nine Strays (six less than the previous week) and 17 Strays too young for adoption (33 less from the previous week). We transferred 67 cats and 20 dogs from our close partners at Washoe County Regional Animal Services. 33 cats were transferred from other partners.

Outcomes
102 cats, 52 dogs, and four small animals were adopted last week – this is 15 more cats, 12 less dogs, and four less small animals compared to the previous week. We were able to reunite four dogs with their owners.

15 animals were humanely euthanized last week; 10 were due to illness, injuries or quality of life, and five were due to behavior. As the community’s safety net, we take these decisions to heart. They are made only when all other options have been exhausted, and always with kindness, respect, and the goal of preventing suffering. These moments are incredibly difficult for our team; each one weighs heavily, as our staff care deeply about every animal that comes through our doors.

Community Support
Last week we received 17 surrender requests for cats and 57 surrender requests for dogs. The median time between a completed application to surrender appointment last week was four days for cats and five days for dogs. Same day emergency surrender appointments are available every day for situations that require immediate relinquishment.

Meet Gordon!🐶

Gordon is a two-year-old Border Collie who is incredibly sweet and a major goof.

Gordon loves everyone he meets and has a lot of playful energy! He loves treats and playing with toys and would be perfect for an active family that can help him get his zoomies out!

Gordon would do best in a home without cats, and we recommend talking to our team about how he would do with other dogs in the home.

Gordon is a happy and healthy boy and is ready for his forever home, if you think that might be your home, come visit him at our Reno campus today! ❤️

We care deeply about our community and want everyone to stay safe during this time.

We’ll share information about a new date for Paws & Programs as soon as we can. We can’t wait to welcome you and give you a behind-the-scenes look at the work we do every day to support pets and our community.

Please stay safe, and thank you for your understanding. 🐾
