Short-nosed breeds are adorable… but breathing should not be a struggle. 🐾

French Bulldogs, English Bulldogs, Pugs, Boston Terriers, Boxers, and other brachycephalic breeds are prone to narrowed airways that can make breathing difficult, especially during exercise, stress, excitement, or hot weather.

At Advanced Veterinary Complex, Stuart Ellis, DVM performs nares and soft palate surgery to help improve airflow, comfort, exercise tolerance, and overall quality of life.

Signs your dog may benefit from airway surgery:
• Loud breathing or snoring
• Heat intolerance
• Gagging or retching
• Difficulty exercising
• Heavy panting or slow recovery after activity

Helping them breathe easier can make a huge difference in their daily comfort and long-term health. Contact us to schedule a consultation and learn more.

As temperatures start rising again, we want to remind everyone that short-snouted breeds such as French Bulldogs, Pugs, Boston Terriers, English Bulldogs, and similar breeds are at extremely high risk for overheating and heatstroke, even on mild days.

Please do NOT leave pets:
• In parked cars
• In crates in the back of vehicles
• In truck beds
• Outside unattended in the heat

These situations can become deadly very quickly.

Signs of heatstroke include excessive panting, drooling, vomiting, weakness, collapse, and bright red gums or tongue. If you notice these signs, seek veterinary care immediately.

We have already seen multiple heat-related emergencies this season. Please help keep your pets safe. ❤️🐾

🐾 Vaccines may not be your pet’s favorite activity… but neither is parvo, kennel cough, or a cone of shame.

We put together this quick guide to help explain the canine and feline vaccines we recommend, require, and strongly encourage for your pets’ health and safety. From boarding and grooming requirements to core protection against serious diseases, prevention truly is easier than treatment.

Because the only thing your pet should be bringing home is attitude. 🐶🐱

Call us anytime if you have questions about your pet’s vaccine schedule!

☀️ Warmer days are coming… which can mean extra struggles for our flat-faced friends…

Breeds like French Bulldogs, Pugs, Bulldogs, Boston Terriers, and Boxers are more prone to breathing difficulties due to BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome).

Many pet owners don’t realize that things like:
🐶 Loud breathing/snoring
🐶 Excessive panting
🐶 Exercise intolerance
🐶 Gagging or retching
🐶 Difficulty handling heat

…can actually be signs of airway obstruction, not just “normal for the breed.”

BOAS surgery can help improve airflow, breathing comfort, exercise tolerance, and overall quality of life — which becomes especially important heading into the warmer months ☀️💙

If you think your pet may be struggling, our team is happy to answer questions and discuss whether your dog may benefit from an evaluation.
