After a lot of thought and some very difficult conversations, Naked Babies Cattery has made the decision that Adonis will not be added to our breeding program. 💙

This is exactly why responsible breeders invest so much time, love, and money into health testing, veterinary workups, and specialist evaluations before adding a cat to their program. Although Adonis’s veterinarians and specialists have told us that his condition is not believed to be hereditary, we simply are not willing to take even the smallest chance when it comes to the health of future kittens.

This was not an easy decision because Adonis is incredibly special to us, but protecting the health of our kittens and the future of the Sphynx breed will always come first.

Sometimes responsible breeding means choosing not to breed. 🐾❤️

Adonis will simply continue being our very loved, very spoiled Naked Baby. 💙

Unfortunately, we had to postpone surgery this morning‘s Adonis blood pressure was was extremely high, but even though our normal reproductive vet is amazing in every way, we have to see a specialist at internal medicine just to see if we can find out anything else that’s going on.

🙏🏼 BIG PRAYERS FOR OUR ADONIS THIS MORNING 🙏🏼

Our sweet boy is undergoing double eye surgery today, and we are praying hard for a successful procedure and smooth recovery. ❤️‍🩹

The surgery itself is just the beginning. We have a long recovery ahead of us, especially trying to keep this little man from touching or rubbing his eyes while everything heals. If you know Adonis, you already know that may be our biggest challenge. 🥹

I also want to use this moment to share something important with every current and future kitten parent.

At Naked Babies Cattery, our kittens go home with a two-year health guarantee, as well as 30 days of complimentary kitten insurance. When I tell you, PLEASE activate and continue your pet insurance, I mean it from experience.

Adonis’s eye surgery alone is approximately $8,000. That doesn’t include the testing, workups, specialist appointments, medications, follow-up visits, or everything else that comes along with getting him to this point.

We never expect something to happen to our babies, but unfortunately, unexpected medical issues can happen — even when we do everything right. Insurance can make an enormous difference when you’re suddenly faced with making medical decisions for an animal you love.

This experience has also reminded me why choosing a breeder you know, trust, and can maintain a relationship with is so important. Do your research. Ask questions. Know where your baby comes from and what support you’ll have after they go home. And when purchasing internationally, be especially diligent about health history, documentation, testing, and what recourse or breeder support will realistically be available if something goes wrong.

I’ve been doing this for years, and I’m still learning lessons too. That’s part of breeding, loving these animals, and always trying to do better.

Today, though, I’m putting all of that aside and focusing on my boy. ❤️

✨🩷 Meet Persephone! This little Sphynx Elf girl deserves a very special post… 🩷✨

The beautiful little girl in the first photo has absolutely hit the family jackpot! 🥹🐾 Tomorrow she gets to head home to one of the most amazing families I have ever had the privilege of knowing.

Of course, she won’t be the first little naked baby running around their house — they already have their own adorable gang of Naked Babies! 😂💕 But this sweet girl is the final addition to the crew, and I am SO excited for her to meet her new family and settle into the life she was meant to have.

This family holds an extra-special place in my heart. In almost 10 years of breeding, we have only ever had one special-needs baby, and this is the incredible family who opened their hearts and their home to him. The love, patience, and care they have given him is something I will never forget. ❤️

As a breeder, you hope and pray that every baby you bring into this world finds a family who will love them as much as you do — and families like this remind me exactly why I do what I do.
