🐾 Looking for trusted pet sitters and boarding recommendations here in Puyallup/Pierce county.

I’d love to hear from my clients and fellow pet parents!

Do you have a pet sitter or boarding facility that you absolutely love and trust with your dogs?

I’m hoping to put together some reliable recommendations for clients who ask about pet care while they’re away.

I’m especially interested in hearing about in-home pet sitters, sitters who offer care in their own homes, and boarding facilities you’ve had really positive experiences with.

If you have someone you trust, I’d love to hear who you use and what you love about them!

Feel free to share your recommendations in the comments! Appreciate your feedback ! 🐾💙

A big congratulations to our Real World Skills graduates! 🐾🎓

Last night we wrapped up our Real World Skills class at Pioneer Park in Puyallup and I couldn’t be prouder of these teams!

Throughout this Guided Practice series, we worked together in real-world environments, building skills around distractions, practicing communication, and helping our dogs learn how to navigate the world with greater confidence and flexibility.

One of my favorite things about Guided Practice is getting to watch each dog and handler grow together. Progress doesn’t always look the same for every dog, and that’s okay! It’s about recognizing where each dog is, supporting them through challenges, and creating opportunities for learning along the way.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, showed up for their dogs, and made this such a fun group to work with!

Congratulations, graduates! I’m so proud of you all! 💜🐶

Stay tuned for more Guided Practice opportunities coming soon!

Hey everyone !

I finally posted this piece I’ve been working on for Beneath Behavior.

I wanted to talk about the smaller things that can happen before a dog barks, lunges, freezes, or pulls. What does it look like when your dog notices something, starts orienting toward it, and either moves on or gets a little more stuck?

I included two videos of Dexter because you can see the difference between him disengaging on his own and needing a little help from me.

If you live or work with a reactive dog, I hope it gives you something useful to notice on your next walk. Happy training! 🐾🧡🍁

The reaction is often only the visible end of a much larger process.

Most of us notice the reaction once a dog lunges or barks, but the pattern often starts much earlier.

In this video, I slow down a real moment with Dexter. You can see him orient toward another dog, get stuck, escalate, receive help disengaging, and then recover.

Looking back, I can also see the exact moment where I could have supported him sooner. That’s why breaking down real moments like this can be so helpful. It isn’t about handling everything perfectly. It’s about learning to recognize what our dogs may need a little earlier.

In the next video, I’ll show you how changing the conditions and offering earlier support can change the pattern.

If videos like this are helpful and you’d like to learn more through a future workshop, pop up, or Guided Practice experience, you can join my email list here:

Group classes at Pawsitive Results are evolving!

I’m bringing all of my small-group learning experiences together under one umbrella: Guided Practice.

Guided Practice will include one-time pop-ups, workshops, and multi-week series designed to help dogs and their people practice real-world skills in real-world environments.

I explain a little more about each format in this video and how you can stay updated as new offerings become available!

I wrote something new tonight for Beneath Behavior on my Substack!

This one feels especially close to the way I’ve come to understand dogs over the years.

Not just what they do, but what might be happening underneath it.

How pressure changes what’s available to them. How experience shapes behavior. How much information we can miss when we rush toward the simplest explanation.

And how sometimes, the dog in front of us has to be allowed to change our mind.

If you work with dogs, live with one, or just find yourself curious about what behavior is really telling us, I’d love for you to read it! 🐾

Good morning!

If you’ve reached out recently and haven’t heard back yet, I wanted to apologize for the delay. I’ve been out of town enjoying a much needed vacation in nature.

I’ll be getting back to everyone who has reached out about training, asked questions, or is currently working with me by Friday this week.

Thank you so much for your patience. I take the time to read every message carefully and respond thoughtfully, and I truly appreciate your understanding. 🌲☀️⛰️🐾

Sometimes one question changes everything.

For me, it was this:

What would make this behavior unnecessary?

I don’t think I realized until recently just how much that question has shaped the way I work with dogs.

I wrote about it today. If you read it, I’d genuinely love to hear what stands out to you.

For years, I’ve explained that when a fearful dog barks and the scary thing goes away, the barking worked.

The dog created distance.

That’s true.

But during puppy class today, I found myself asking a different question:

Why did the distance matter?

And suddenly I realized something.

The distance was never the point.

Safety was.

The distance was simply how the dog got there.

My newest article explores how this realization changed the way I think about fear, reactivity, and what dogs are really reaching for when they bark, lunge, avoid, or create space.

📖 The Distance Was Never The Point

Today, during puppy class, something clicked.
