When we were alerted to a deaf and blind senior dog in need and received photos of him sitting in a bloody kennel, we immediately went to the shelter to rescue him.

Meet Kodiak, aka "Koda"- an 80 lb. fur ball of love!

We were told that he had been diagnosed with an abscess and that it had been surgically opened. Concerned about his condition, we took him directly to our veterinarian for a thorough evaluation. After examining him, our veterinarian determined that the lesion was not an abscess but a mass that requires surgical removal.

Given his advanced age and the fact that he is both blind and deaf, we were deeply troubled by what he had already endured. The procedure performed, the trauma it caused, and the infection that followed have raised serious concerns about the care he received before coming into our care.

Our priority now is ensuring that he receives the medical treatment, comfort, and compassion he deserves. We are committed to giving him every opportunity to heal and to enjoy the safety, dignity, and love that every animal deserves.

He will have surgery soon once the infection is cleared, to remove the mass properly. He will need to be neutered & a visit to the doggie eye doctor too!

This is the start of Kodiak's retirement chapter- Probably the best chapter he's ever experienced!

Kodiak's care will be costly to the rescue. Please consider making a donation if you are able, and please share this post!

Thank you!

Introducing Griffin: Smart, handsome, loyal and AVAILABLE!

If you're looking for a loyal companion, a playful sidekick, and a dog who will love you with his whole heart, Griffin might just be your perfect match.

This handsome 2-year-old, 57 pound (will be 60-70 lbs) German Shepherd mix is full of personality, affection, and enthusiasm for life. Whether he's soaking up attention from his favorite people, playing with canine friends, or exploring the world around him, Griffin approaches every day with a wagging tail and a joyful spirit.

Griffin hasn't always known kindness, but you'd never guess it from the loving dog he is today. He lived the first part of his life chained outside with limited interaction with humans and other animals. A good Samaritan reported his living situation to authorities, and thankfully he was confiscated by Animal Control in the area he was living; that was the best day of his life, and the start of a new beginning!

Since arriving at Pets with Disabilities, he has blossomed into a happy, healthy boy who is finally getting the care, comfort, and attention he deserves. His fluffy white coat is growing back beautifully, he's steadily gaining weight, and his confidence grows more every day.

One of Griffin's favorite things in the world is being around people. After spending much of his life without companionship, he's making up for lost time and is more than ready to become someone's devoted best friend. He loves attention, enjoys being part of the action, and has all the playful energy of a young dog eager to experience life with his family. Griffin walks wonderfully on a leash and would make a great walking or hiking companion. He also is a great car traveler!

Griffin also gets along well with other dogs and would likely enjoy having a canine buddy to romp around with. He also enjoys the company of feline friends! Because he's still learning the ins and outs of indoor living, he'll need some guidance with house training, but he's a smart boy who is eager to learn and eager to please.

His ideal home would include a fenced yard (not required) where he can stretch his legs and enjoy the freedom he's never had before.

Most importantly, Griffin is looking for a family that will give him what he's always wanted: love, companionship, and a place to call home.

After everything he's been through, Griffin is ready for the happy ending he deserves.

Could you be the person he's been waiting for?

Please share, and be sure to check out his transformation he had made at PWD!

Meet Levi — the sweetest, most unique-looking best friend you'll ever meet!

Levi is a 2-year-old, 34 pound, Husky/Bulldog mix (at least that's our best guess—and we'd love to hear yours!). Thanks to his striking looks and unforgettable personality, he's truly one of a kind.

Levi is blind and deaf due to irresponsible breeding, but don't tell him that anything is different about him. He approaches life with endless enthusiasm, a happy heart, and a determination that inspires everyone he meets. His disabilities don't define him—they're simply a small part of who he is.

What truly makes Levi special is his love for people. He has never met a stranger, and he absolutely adores children. He's also wonderful with other dogs and cats, making friends wherever he goes. Using his incredible sense of smell, Levi expertly tracks down his favorite humans. Once he finds you, be prepared—you've gained a loyal shadow for life. Levi is the ultimate velcro dog who loves giving hugs, soaking up affection, and sharing his contagious smile.

Levi enjoys car rides, spending time with his people, and discovering the world around him through scent and touch. He is looking for a patient adopter who can provide a safe environment, a consistent routine, and continued guidance as he builds confidence navigating new spaces. Some leash training and ongoing support will help him continue to thrive, but the love and devotion he gives in return are beyond measure.

Levi was found as a stray in rural Georgia, and it's hard to imagine how he survived on his own. What we do know is that he possesses an extraordinary spirit, incredible resilience, and a heart overflowing with love. Every day, Levi proves that joy isn't about perfect circumstances—it's about embracing life with an open heart.

If you're looking for a dog who will love you unconditionally, make you smile every day, and show you what true resilience looks like, Levi may be the perfect addition to your family.

Meet Miss Molly

Molly is a beautiful 45 pound, 4 year old, Foxhound. Though she doesn’t have any physical disabilities, she was sadly overlooked at a very rural shelter due to medical concerns.

Molly came to us with mammary masses and tested positive for heartworm. The good news? Her masses have been successfully removed, and they were identified as a Grade 1 (low-grade) carcinoma—meaning the chances of recurrence are extremely low!

She is now undergoing heartworm treatment- and will be complete by August.

Molly is crate trained, house trained, and gets along wonderfully with dogs, cats, and humans!

She is truly the sweetest, most affectionate hound you could ever meet.

Let’s help Molly find the loving home she deserves!

Meet Lucky!

Lucky is an adorable, 6 pound, 9-year-old Chihuahua who came to us after the heartbreaking loss of her owner. Since arriving, she’s received much-needed care for some eye issues that were causing discomfort, and she’s feeling so much better these days. Lucky will need eye drops several times a day for the rest of her life, but she takes them like an absolute champ.

This sweet girl is a classic Chihuahua — happiest curled up in your lap or following you from room to room. Lucky forms strong bonds with her people and loves being close to them whenever she can.

Because Lucky had very limited socialization in her previous life, she can be very fearful in new environments and around unfamiliar people. She will need a patient, understanding home willing to give her the time and space she needs to feel safe and settle in at her own pace. Once she trusts you, Lucky’s loving personality truly shines.

Lucky has been doing well in her foster home, but we feel she would do best in a quieter home without children. Small dogs are okay for her.

If you have room in your heart and home for a devoted little companion who just needs a chance to feel safe and loved again, please fill out an application for Lucky.

Please share Lucky so we can find her perfect match!

Gidget Adopted!

There is something very special about seeing one of our senior dogs find a forever home. Seniors often come with health challenges and need a little extra care, patience, and love — making these adoptions even more meaningful.

A huge thank you to Kristina and Chris for fostering Gidget back to health and helping prepare her for this next chapter. And to her amazing adopter, thank you for opening your heart and being ready to continue Gidget’s care and give her the loving retirement home she deserves.

We are beyond happy for Gidget!

From Gidget’s new Mom:

“Desolate after losing my rescued chi mix, I knew it would take a special dog to help me heal. Gidget’s picture on the Pets With Disabilities website drew me in. Though she’s deaf as the result of severe ear infections, she’s a doll. She loves roaming her fenced yard and rooting around under blankets in her three dog beds. I adore her, and she seems to return the sentiment. I’m so grateful to Pets With Disabilities for rescuing her and letting me become her Mom!”
