Meet Bunny! 🐇

Bunny is a 2-year-old, 6-pound Chiweenie (Chihuahua/Dachshund mix) who is proof that a disability doesn’t have to define a dog’s life. Born without her two front limbs, Bunny has adapted beautifully and doesn’t let anything slow her down!

She is a sweet little girl who is learning to show more and more of her playful personality every day.

A little about Bunny:

Age: 2 years old
Weight: 6 pounds
Breed: Chiweenie (Chihuahua/Dachshund mix)
Different Ability: Born without her two front limbs, but she hops/scoots around and enjoys life!
✅Good with dogs: YES, Gets along wonderfully with other dogs
✅Good with cats: YES!
✅Good with Kids: She would prefer children over the age of 10 who are respectful of dogs and their space.
✅Housetrained: Trained for both outside and p*e pads
Things she loves: being with her humans, her animal friends, but also does well in a pen for quiet time.

🚨Please note: Due to her disability, Bunny will need to be carried up and down steps. She will also need to be kept on flooring/ground that will not injure her chest when she scoots & hops. When out and about, a doggie stroller or a carrier would work well! She is very portable at only 6 pounds.

Bunny isn’t looking for someone to feel sorry for her—she’s looking for someone who will love her, spoil her, and give her the chance to live the happy life she deserves.️

Different Ability: 1/2 of lower jaw removed & old injury in rear leg healed
Housetrained: Unsure- but probably will be ok with consistency- she is smart!
Crate trained: Yes
Good with: Other dogs, seems to love all people she meets!
Children: Yes. She loves everyone she meets!

Meet Adicus AKA "Adi"- The HAPPIEST dog you will ever meet!

When a PWD rescue partner reached out about a precious 4.5-year-old Border Collie was missing part of her jaw, we knew we wanted to help. Adicus was hit by a car several years ago and was lucky enough for a fractured jaw to be her greatest injury. Due to the state of this injury, she underwent surgery and part of her jaw was removed. She also has an old, healed injury in her rear leg, but it doesn't bother her at all, and she runs and jumps with ease.

While she eats and drinks well, there is some limitation to the kind of food she can eat. Softened kibble and canned food have been her go-to while here. Currently, she weighs 26 pounds with a goal of 30 pounds. Adi is fully healed, healthy, and excited to find a forever home!

Adi is a total sweetheart and loves people and other dogs. She always has pep in her step and loves to run around outside. We also found she likes to chase and kick a ball around, even though she can’t pick it up with her mouth (possibly the cutest thing you will ever watch). She is good on a leash, quiet, and crate trained. If you’re looking for an all-around, good-natured girl, Adi could be the dog for you!

Housetrained: Yes
Crate trained: Yes, but prefers to be out!
Good with: Other dogs, cats (will chase to play!)
Children: 8 years old and over would be best due to his energy level

Stewie came to us from a partner shelter in North Carolina, where he found himself an injured stray at a hair salon. The shelter then contacted us for help due to his injured leg. He has been seen a few times by our orthopedic veterinarian and is considered fully healed now. You almost wouldn't even know there was ever a broken leg! The benefits of being young!

Stewie is fortunate to be in one of our experienced foster homes, this is what she had to say:

"Stewie is a comical playful guy. He loves playing with other dogs, especially when he can run and get his zoomies out! He has recently started leash walks and is doing well- he enjoys the new sights and smells on his excursions. He is smart and is learning a few commands like "sit" and "stay." He is also making great progress with housetraining- He will now go to the door when he has to go out. True to the terrier & chihuahua breed, he is a loyal pup and will follow you wherever you go. He is going to make a great companion."

Cleo begins radiation treatment today at Veterinary Radiation Oncology of the Chesapeake .

This will be an 18 day journey of treatments at the cost of nearly $12,000.

Please keep her in your thoughts and send her positive healing vibes as she battles Nephroblastoma, at the young age of 11 months.

We are committed to giving her the best chance at a nice long happy life.

On Friday, we said goodbye to our sweet senior Benjamin.

We are thankful that Benjamin got to spend his final 5 months months with us at Pets with Disabilities. We are especially grateful that he did not have to die alone in a shelter.

When Benjamin arrived, we knew he had a lot going on. We worked hard to get him eating again, figured out some of his health issues, and gave him the care, comfort, and love he so desperately needed.

We may not have had Benjamin for a long time, but his final months were filled with warm beds, full bellies, gentle hands, and people who cared deeply about him.

Sometimes rescue isn't about saving a life for years. Sometimes it is about giving a senior dog a few good months when they otherwise may not have had any.

Thank you to our friends at Prince Frederick Animal Hospital for answering the early morning call for help to assist Benjamin over the bridge.

Run free, sweet Benjamin.
