The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.
You will be sad, I understand;
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.
We've had so many happy years -
What is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer so;
The time has come, so let me go.
Take me where my needs they'll tend
And please stay with me until the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.
Please do not grieve - it must be you
Who had this painful thing to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years -
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.

They tell you not to cry.

They tell you that it's just a dog, not a human being.

They tell you that the pain will be over.

They tell you that the animals don't know that they have to die.

They tell you that it's important not to let him suffer.

They tell you that you can have another one.

They tell you it's going to happen to you.

They tell you that there is more pain.

But they don't know how many times you've looked into your dog’s eyes.

They don't know how many times you and your dog have looked into darkness alone.

They don't know how many times your dog was the only one who was by your side.

They don't know how much fear you have
at night when you wake up with your grief.

They don't know how many times your dog slept near you.

They don't know how much you've changed since the dog has become a part of your life.

They don't know how many times you hugged him when he was sick.

They don't know how many times you've acted like you didn't see his hair getting whiter.

They don't know how many times you've talked to your dog, the only one who really hears.

They don't know that it was just your dog who knew you were in pain.

They don't know what it feels like to see your old dog trying to get up to say hello.

They don't know that if things went wrong, the only one who didn't go is your dog.

They don't know that your dog trusts you every moment of his life, even in the last.

They don't know how much your dog loved you and how it is enough for him to be happy, because you loved him.

They don't know that crying for a dog is one of the most noble, significant, true, purest and warmest things you can do.

They don't know when the last time you moved him with trouble... making sure it didn’t hurt him.

They don't know what it felt like to pet their face in the last moments of their life....

In Memory of all those who went over the rainbow bridge. You all have a place forever in our hearts 💕

A big Thank You to Dr. Kathleen Blessing for her wonderful assistance to our clients. Below is an example of feedback we receive about her regularly:

"We first met Dr. Blessing 2 years ago after our dog Akira suffered a lung injury which could not be fixed. It was 8pm on a Tuesday & our options were to call every at home service in hopes one would answer or take her back to the animal hospital which we really did not want to do. Not only did Dr. Blessing answer but she seemingly dropped everything to come help us. It was a devastating situation but it was made so much better by getting to say goodbye at home. We asked for a paw print from our girl which I expected would be mailed to us but instead Dr. Blessing personally dropped it off.

Unfortunately we found ourselves in a similar situation when 8 months ago our other dog Oden was diagnosed with bone cancer. Thinking he only had weeks to live I immediately reached out to Dr. Blessing. We were so lucky to have our boy for an additional 8 months & Dr. Blessing stayed in contact with us the entire time. She would text to see how we & Oden were doing. It meant so much to us & was such a great support to know once we got to that time we knew she would be there. I would highly recommend Dr. Blessing & this service to everyone. Thank you Dr. Blessing for everything you've done for us.

Brooke & Neil ❤"
