Today is a truly special day! We get to celebrate the wonderful Kristi Butler! 🎉🎂🥳

Kristi, you are a true inspiration to so many of us, and local animal welfare wouldn't be the same without your vision and heart.

As the Founder and President of Street Paws and the President & Director for the Clayton County Humane Society, Kristi works tirelessly every single day for the dogs, cats, and even the occasional rabbit in our community. Her non-stop dedication, fierce advocacy, and passion for finding rescue animals their forever homes is nothing short of incredible.

Wishing you the happiest of birthdays! May your day be filled with as much love and joy as you bring to so many four-legged lives every day. 🐾❤️✨

✨Today we are working on Sniff Walks and Pattern Games. 🐶🎮

Sniff walks are a fabulous enrichment activity for dogs of any age and at any stage of life. In addition to sniffing literally making dogs feel good, science has shown that sniff walks can reduce anxiety and improve their cognitive health. Also, since dogs have an average of 300 all factory receptors, 20 minutes of focused, sniffing and mentally fatigue a dog as much as a 1-hour high energy, walk or run. If you are a geek like me and want to know more about that, there are links at the end of this post.

Pattern games are simple to teach and to remember. They act like a conversation between you and your dog, they tell your dog that y’all are in this together and that you were gonna work through it together.

Hiking and leash work with Storm is all about patience, teamwork, and letting dogs just be dogs! 🐾

Today we’re working on positive reinforcement leash walking—celebrating check-ins, waiting out the pulls, and remembering to ditch the negative feedback. Did you know that the area of a dog's brain that processes smells is right next to the area that releases dopamine? Sniffing isn't just taking in information; it literally makes them feel good! 🌲✨

Storm is learning the ropes so well, getting smarter by the mile, and looking for her very own forever couch.

👉 Ready to welcome this sweet girl into your family? Apply to adopt her at www.streetpaws.org!
