We want to show you just a few of the many dogs we are currently caring for in the shelter. We would never be able to provide the care they deserve without the communities support.
This has been an extremely stressful week. Summer time we see a huge increase in the number of animals entering the shelter. One of our animal control trucks was destroyed in a very scary accident.
There is a common misconception that WCJC Animal Shelter is fully funded by local government. We want to help clarify how our organization operates.
WCJC Animal Shelter is a nonprofit organization. While we partner with Washington County and the City of Johnson City to provide animal control and sheltering services, government funding covers only a small portion of our overall operating budget. Less than one-third of our budget comes from government funding, meaning more than 70% must be raised through donations, grants, and community support.
The reality is that the majority of the care we provide—food, medical treatment, vaccinations, spay/neuter services, enrichment, foster programs, staffing, facility maintenance, and lifesaving programs—is made possible through donations, grants, fundraising efforts, and the support of our community.
We are proud to serve as a community partner with the City of Johnson City and Washington County, but our ability to continue this work depends heavily on the generosity of supporters who believe in our mission.
Whether you donate, volunteer, foster, adopt, or simply share our posts, you play a direct role in helping us save lives.
Thank you for standing with us and supporting the animals who depend on our community’s kindness.
