Today was Biloxi’s 2nd Canine Good Citizen Class at Rucker Dog Training!!

Today we had to start using a flat collar vs a prong or e collar to navigate around the different stations that Biloxi will have to successfully go thru to pass the test! This was a challenge for both of us!

Biloxi had to walk around bowls of treats and sit in front of them without eating them, walk around people with adaptive equipment such as walkers , canes and wheelchairs and do a down stay while I turned my back on him and walked away. Let’s just say, it was tough- but for a good reason- therapy dogs have to be counted on to listen, make good decisions and to be safe.

Biloxi and I have a lot of work to do before class next week, but we are both enjoying it and hope to do well!!

Funds Needed for Potato Chip!!!!

So, BarkVille has not been able to pull or save any new dogs in over 8 weeks….. it’s so hard, it hurts us not to help, but we have been working desperately to get our boarding dogs into homes. We have had some great success, a few failures out of the gate and a few dogs have been returned after being adopted or in foster long term……so, as always we keep trying.

Yesterday, one of our long term, loyal and super trusted fosters asked us if we could please save Potato Chip if she fostered…..it was breaking her heart to think this poor mistreated puppy was going to die because of an untreated skin condition. Honestly, it is gut wrenching to see all of these wonderful dogs losing their lives - all because of irresponsible human beings. So, we said YES!!!

Now, we need your help to cover his veterinary care! The vet will be his first stop this morning after getting picked up from the shelter- we are not really sure what is going on with him, but we will make it a priority to get him all fixed up. He will need treatment for his skin, vaccines, a microchip, a heartworm and f***l test and he’ll need to be neutered.

Happy Monday from Biloxi and Chapman!

This handsome couple had a night out on the town in the 1996 Corvette BarkVille Dog Rescue is raffling off. Since Biloxi is currently in his Canine Good Citizen program he told Chapman he would drive. According to Chapman they were quite the hit with people honking and waving everywhere they went.

The two of them could not help but wonder which lucky person was going to win this raffle so they asked that we post these pics from their weekend and told us to let everyone know that your $20 raffle ticket purchase will go a long way in helping BarkVille Dog Rescue save more dogs just like them! Sometimes fostering doesn’t go exactly as planned… because sometimes, they’re already home. ❤️

Rupert has had one pretty incredible foster mom by his side, supporting him, loving him, and giving him everything he needed every step of the way.

Around the Fourth of July, an unexpected broken leg meant Rupert’s foster mom needed some time to heal, and Rupert had to temporarily head back to his training and boarding facility.

While he was there, something unexpected happened: Rupert received an adoption application from a wonderful family. It looked like an amazing opportunity for him and should have been exactly what every foster hopes for.

Except there was one little problem…

His foster mom realized she wasn’t ready to let him go. 🥹❤️

Sometimes it takes the possibility of saying goodbye to realize that the dog you’ve been preparing for someone else’s forever has already found it.

So this time, we get to say our very favorite words:

RUPERT IS HOME. FOREVER. 🏡🐾❤️

We also want to give a huge shout-out to Rucker Dog Training Academy for everything they did to keep Rupert safe, happy, and well-adjusted while his foster mom — now his adopted mom ❤️ — healed. Knowing Rupert was in such capable and caring hands during that unexpected transition meant more than we can say.

Congratulations, Rupert, and congratulations to the foster mom who loved you so well that she finally realized you were hers all along.

Another foster fail we couldn’t be happier about. ❤️🐾

Okay for all of your Biloxi fans!!!!

He’s Back!! Biloxi had to spend 8 days with Rucker Dog Training because we had an emergency foster that needed a place to go in a hurry! Thankfully, Biloxi is accommodating and was happy to go hang out with all of his friends at Ruckers!!!

Today I picked up Biloxi from Rucker and we started our first class in the Canine Good Citizen or CGC class. It was a GREAT class and Biloxi is the ONLY Pitbull in a class of 24- so he represented his breed proudly and did a wonderful job!!

For those of you wondering what the CGC class is all about here is a little info - Canine Good Citizen (CGC) established in 1989, is an American Kennel Club program to promote responsible dog ownership and to encourage the training of well-mannered dogs. A dog and handler team must take a short behavioral evaluation of less than half an hour; dogs who pass the evaluation earn the Canine Good Citizen certificate. After a dog passes the CGC they can apply to different organizations to be therapy dog.

The great news for Biloxi is, if he passes the test, he can go to work with me several times a week!! This will be a great experience for him and give him the opportunity to meet some folks that might fall in love and decide to adopt!

We’re super happy to have Biloxi back home and we’ll be practicing all his good boy skills this week…..so stay tuned for a fun update soon!!
