We currently have 4 green thoroughbreds on the farm, and going off property is a big part of their education. We’ve been taking each of them on the road for a variety of schooling and show opportunities. “Being away from home, especially spending the night, can be overwhelming at first,” Cindy says. “We try to set our horses up for success by pairing them with experienced riders and seasoned horses, and letting them take in the new sights and sounds at their own pace. With green horses, victories happen even if they don’t make it into the show ring. Learning to stand quietly and react appropriately to things like applause, barking dogs, and golf carts is a win in my book.” Emma and Donnie were rock stars this past weekend at their first BEST Horse Shows. They competed together in the OTTB Green Hunters and came home with matching decorations!

When we go to a show, we spend a lot of time working on our performance in the ring. But it’s not all about ribbons and great videos (though we came home with plenty!). The time we spend with our equine partners out of the ring is even more important - early mornings, late nights, and dozens of tasks done in the quiet downtime, always putting them first no matter how hot or tired we are. That’s when we form the strongest bonds that carry our partnerships forward to the next trip. And we wouldn’t have it any other way! BEST Horse Shows

Our riders have had a great time at McDonogh horse shows this season! Last month, Hallie and Moe competed in the thoroughbred hunters at the Maryland Summer Classic. Yesterday at the MHSA regional show, two of our greener horses, Emma and Rocket, joined show veterans Sky and Moe to compete in a variety of hunter, jumper, and equitation classes. Piloted by riders Helen, Mandy, Adam, and Judy, everyone came home with ribbons! Belated birthday wishes to Cindy Lytle, who generously spent her birthday making sure our team had a great day!
