We had a patient in need of a blood transfusion today.

We do these a lot but today was harder because this sweet pup has already had many blood transfusions in the past so performing a cross match was necessary.

Our staff came through with 2 of their own pets to cross match (their husbands dropped off the dogs today even though they were busy) and one of our amazing clients was in the exam room when he heard we desperately needed blood and offered his dog to donate.

The outpouring of support and willingness to have their own dogs go through with a blood donation really made me stop and be so appreciative for our staff and clients.

Luckily Dr Mercure’s dog matched and our patient did very well when receiving the blood and went home with his mom tonight.

Dr. Forward is one of our many amazing veterinarians. She is board certified in canine and feline medicine. Her special interests? Dentistry, complex canine/feline internal medicine cases, dermatology, and small mammal medicine — she LOVES a good guinea pig!

She also regularly performs ozone therapy and drives the endoscope!
