The started a whole course overhaul and got such a dramatic installation upgrade in the process that we had to begin the grand reveal of all our gorgeous additions by giving Shi Shi her own moment with a legitimate photoshoot! 💅🥰 Lauren perfectly captured why this billowy beauty has proved to be a brilliant obstacle and fantastic source of desensitization. 🌬️🍃 I’m obsessed with the pretty potted palm trees enhancing our chill beach vibe. 🌴 The ponies around here are all learning to say: “Don’t worry, be happy!” 😎

Soooooooooo many fun additions to share!!! A few are still in the finishing stages, but I promise to do a whole update of all the fabulous fences and the ginormous critical thinking course, as soon as it is “complete.” For my sake, and more importantly the sanity of those around me, I swear to wrap it up (for now, lol), by this weekend. 🤪😆

Shep and Arlo got to do a trial run in hand during lessons yesterday! Both boys, AND their handlers, made me super proud with how they cleverly combined all the ground work skills we have been building with talent and tact to tackle all the new tricky trail obstacles!

The educational psychologist in me geeks out anytime we get to deep dive into learning and instruction! This winter is going to be wonderful!!! 🤓❤️

Off to go paint some MORE! 🎨😅😆

108° at 2 pm seems like the perfect temp and time to give ponies pasture-baths, and then quickly build a big, beautiful, beefy 10x4’ bridge, while the horses take a break, before beginning our afternoon/evening lesson block in a couple of hours! We may have this “beasts of burden” thing a bit backwards. 😂

Sooooo many fun features finished over the weekend; I can’t wait to show everyone, starting at lessons this morning. AAAAAND TONS STILL TO COMEEEEE!!! As I get final touches put on more of the additions, I’ll post pictures of them all! In the meantime, here is a shot of the super cool, antique, hitching-post horse head Jonathan found for us yesterday, while out treasure hunting! I’m pretty sure he intended for me to put it in the house, but I told him I spend way more time at the big arena, so I would get to enjoy it the most up there, lol!

This story is 20 years in the making.

I am 37. I have been through it all. Divorced. Sued. Robbed. Rented rooms. Put myself through college. Bad relationships. Bad friendships. You name it. Learned a lot of *hard* lessons, but absolutely refused to quit.

There were times when Hottie paid my rent, my car payment, for food. I had NOTHING.

Times I sold horses I never wanted to. To survive. To eat. To pay my bills, and I cried every time they loaded them up.

I worked for *years* and never made a dime. I focused on building myself, learning, watching successful people and figuring out how to reinvent the wheel.

I remember thinking I can’t compete with professionals. I wasn’t fast enough, but I kept pushing myself, a kept moving my horses, trying to find what I needed, and slowly but surely, the tides started to turn.

When Josh and I met (10 years ago) I rented a place by the college and he lived in a camper in a field with no electricity while he hand built his place. I did every side hustle you can think of, because I wanted better horses. I remember sitting in the bleachers at Diamond T in the winter to get internet for classes, and Dirk being so kind to leave a corner office unlocked for me so I wouldn’t freeze. I did whatever it took.

I had the car I lovingly called the “G-Wagon,” a $2,000 dodge nitro that was orange 🤮😆 with no heat, and I remember saying all winter while driving it, “I want to buy land, I want to buy land.” 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I finally was able to buy my dream piece of dirt about 6 years ago, thanks to the help of Three Times the Fury, and many of my good mares I sold to build the barn, build the apartment and the shop. All of which we built ourselves, because we couldnt afford to hire anything out.

This year, I built an arena. 🤯 Before owning this dirt, I hauled to ride. 15 YEARS OF HAULING TO RIDE, never having my own arena.

I refused to quit. I 120% BET ON ME. I refused to go with social norms, I refused to listen to outside noise. I refused to think I couldn’t do it. I kept pushing….

The things I have today are from immense sacrifice. I share this, because if I can do it, so can you. I want you to be inspired, and if you’re a hater… well I just want you to know if you put that energy towards yourself, you can accomplish things you want in life too.

No one is coming to save you, but no one is coming to stop you either. 💪🏻

It’s a blessing and a (weekly) curse... 🌱 In the summer, it feels like just as much of my 5-9 is spent riding a zero turn or tractor with a bush hog as it is riding horses! 🏇 Out here meditating, while mowing pretty pastures by moonlight… 🤪

Sunday afternoons were made for taking training rides off the beaten path, with God helping us make good horses great. ❤️

“Some keep the Sabbath going to Church -
I keep it, staying at Home -
With a Bobolink for a Chorister -
And an Orchard, for a Dome -

Some keep the Sabbath in Surplice -
I, just wear my Wings -
And instead of tolling the Bell, for Church,
Our little Sexton - sings.

God preaches, a noted Clergyman -
And the sermon is never long,
So instead of getting to Heaven, at last -
I’m going, all along.”

Emily Dickinson

We clean up good, decked out in dazzle, but there is nothing bougie about the grind. Regardless of who you are in the horse world… we sweat, we freeze; we spend hours in the saddle and even more on our feet; it’s all day and many nights. Wouldn’t trade this life for anything, but it ain’t for everyone. 😉🤠 So lucky to have horses, like Tara’s mare, Anna, as part of the Future Performance Horses show string - ones who walk out of the barn with a work ethic that matches ours and are equally willing to leave it all in the ring! She’s proving to be a quick study learning her new Western Riding job! 🤓🦄
