Last Wednesday, we welcome 17 Animal Control Officers from across the state of Virginia: Madison County, Chase City County, Botetourt County, Prince George County, King William County, Hanover County, King & Queen County, Greene County, Va. Sheriff's Office, Albemarle County and Northumberland County.

Each year, HLER hosts two FREE Animal Control Open Houses. One in the Spring and one in the Fall. During this 4 hour fully credited training event, ACOs learn irreplaceable knowledge to help them in future equine seizures. We focus on proper feeding regimens (hay and grain), how to adequately body score and weight tape all sizes of equines, how to read equine body language and behavior, halter and leading safely as well as trailer loading.

A huge thank you to those who take the time to help put this event on as well as share their knowledge. Thank you to The Batesville Market for catering lunch and Blue Ridge Farmers Coop for the donation of cotton lead ropes.

At the end of each Open House, ACOs leave with several packets which include all information covered and more as well as lead ropes, breakaway halters and weight tapes to keep in their vehicles.

If you or anyone you know are interested in learning more about this great event and joining us in 2027, please email Sarah at [email protected]

We had an amazing weekend thanks to all of you! Hoofin It for Horses brought out a crowd and raised over $4000 for the rescue. To everyone that hosted a hike, bought tickets, explored the farm or showed up to say hi - THANK YOU!

Also, we want to give a shout-out to volunteer Izzie McGregor-Crane who dedicated her time to make reusable bags from the rescue’s used feed bags. Beautiful, practical, and all about the horses - what could be better?! (And they’re still available! Email Laura at [email protected])

A huge thank you to the Equine Welfare Collaborative of Virginia for this grant towards the care of 28 horses that we have been caring for over the past several months while their case was working its way through the court system.

Congratulations to our first Feed Assistance Pilot Program recipient!

Hope’s Legacy Equine Rescue was awarded $18,200 this week to assist in feeding 28 seized equids they are housing for Virginia law enforcement.

Thank you for helping close the gap that exists for seized equids in Virginia. https://www.ewcv.org/free-aid

Another JOB WELL DONE with our volunteer friends from United Way of Greater Charlottesville! It’s always such a pleasure to host this each year! We love seeing returning friends and new, and sharing our love of all things equine. Each year, our almost 30 volunteers get out of their cars smiling, roll their sleeves up and are ready to get a little dirty and have some fun at the same time.

THANK YOU to our UVA volunteers who helped get Castle Rock Farm in tip top shape for this weekend’s Hoofin’ It For Horses Open House! The farm looks amazing; thanks to your endless weeding, cleaning of feed pans, sprucing up our Volunteer Center, mucking run ins, and so much more! We are grateful for your service hearts and know the animals loved all of the attention even more!

We can’t wait to see everyone at Castle Rock Farm tomorrow for Hoofin It For Horses & Open House! Come out for a beautiful day on the farm with free self-guided tours to learn from our amazing volunteers about the rescue’s work. There are spots still available on our hikes including the fascinating Tree Identification Hike led by Hope’s Legacy volunteer and tree expert, Emily, at 2pm.

✨What can be better than one mini pony?...........ONE MINI PONY AND ONE MINI MULE!!✨

🥕Please allow me to introduce Faris (paint on the right) and Mueller (long ears on the left) These two are a bonded pair and are only adoptable together. 🥕

🍎Mother Faris is about 11 yo and Son Mueller is about 8yo.

😇Faris is an angel about grooming, having her feet picked and standing for the vet. Miss Faris does have some insulin issues but its manageable.

🫏Mueller........is a mule and needs an education in all the ways. 😂(He must take after his father!) His cuteness makes up for the lack of education though.

These two have lived with other mares and geldings and get along well.

🫶If you are interested in a project (Mueller) and the sweetest girl around (Faris) fill out an adoption application on our website at https://www.hopeslegacy.com/adoptionapplication

🫶If you already have an approved application and want to meet these two, send an email to [email protected]
