Update! We’re so happy to share that 85 dogs found homes this past weekend, including Panther, who enjoyed a relaxing nap on the ride to his new home 🥰 His family reports he’s adjusted well since he arrived (swipe to see for yourself!)

Thank you all for stepping up at the last minute to spread the word about our urgent fee-waived dog adoption event and coming out despite the crazy weather (and sonic boom!!!) to adopt! Special thanks to our adoption center teams for making this event so successful.

When we first introduced you to Balboa, he was with our Emergency and Critical Care Service after being found severely underweight found by . Thanks to the incredible work of our hospital team, Balboa received the around-the-clock care he needed to recover, and begin gaining strength.

Today, we’re thrilled to share that Balboa is feeling so much better, and he’s ready to find a home of his own!!

While we don’t know much about Balboa’s past, we do know that he’s a gentle giant with a resilient spirit and a whole lot of love to give. He’s looking for a patient and understanding adopter who will give him the time and space he needs to settle in and continue building confidence at his own pace.

Today is the final day of our fee-waived adoption event for dogs 6 months and older at all four MSPCA adoption centers. That means Balboa’s adoption fee is waived today, Sunday, May 31.

Could this be the fresh start Balboa has been waiting for?

Visit our Boston Adoption Center during open adoption hours from 12–4 p.m. to meet Balboa and speak with our staff. No appointment needed.

It may be yucky outside but the sun is always shining when Sunshine is around, and she is ready for day 2 of our fee-waived adoption event for dogs 6 months and up!

Yesterday was an incredible day with 40 dogs finding homes across our 4 shelters and we are hoping the momentum keeps up despite the weather. The event is at all 4 mspca locations and is running through tomorrow 5/31!

Sunshine is a big, bright personality with so much love to give, and she enjoys being right in the middle of the action with her people. She loves to explore, play with stuffed animals, and soak up all the attention she can get! Sunshine is not a big fan of other dogs and is looking to be your only.

Stop by Northeast Animal Shelter to meet Sunshine. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 11:30am-5pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.

Buddy is probably not the most accurate name for this guy but here we are. What Buddy really needs is for someone to be a friend to him. He came to the MSPCA from one of our South Carolina partner shelters with a limited socialization history. While he was adopted last year by folks with good intentions, when that didn’t work we learned that Buddy needs a very specific home with very cat savvy people. His preference is to avoid human interaction which is totally fine if he has a safe and secure place to do so. More so than most cats, Buddy will need a small, quiet area to acclimate to a new home, and people who will slowly expand his world at his pace. Basically, Buddy may always be peeking at you from inside a box and hopes you’ll respect that.
It is possible that he could benefit from a cat friend, though in addition to his complex emotional needs, Buddy is FIV positive. Another FIV+ companion would be ideal, but studies have shown that transmission of FIV between sterilized cats in stable households is very low, so we recommend talking to your vet if you have an FIV negative cat but are considering being Buddy’s hero. He is waiting at the Boston adoption center and decidedly does NOT want to meet you, but would really appreciate it if you helped him get out of here. You can visit and inquire in person or email [email protected] for more info.

FEE WAIVED THROUGH SUNDAY 5/31

Yesterday, we introduced you to Gilligan. We told you this boy LOVES a car ride, and he loves a drive thru, but it seems he’s more there for the vibes than the treats! Someone told him don’t take candy from strangers and he took that seriously!!

Gilligan loves humans of all ages, but wants to be your only pet please 💙 his fee is waived until Sunday 5/31 just like all dogs 6 months and older at all 4 MSPCA shelters.

If you think Gilligan could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Nevins Farm Adoption Center in Methuen. We have open adoption hours Tuesday–Sunday from 12:00 p.m.–4:30 p.m., with no appointment or application needed.

FEE WAIVED THROUGH SUNDAY 5/31

Meet Gilligan! His favorite things are sniffy walks, his people, and treats. Gilligan is a sweet and sensitive pup looking for an understanding family willing to use positive reinforcement to help build his confidence. You’re sure to fall in love!

Gilligan loves to play and is full of energy, making him a great companion for a hiker, runner, or just an admirer of the great outdoors. He prefers the company of human friends over canine or feline friends and would like to be your only pet. That said, once he settles into his new home, he may enjoy having dog friends to go on walks with.

Gilligan may start off a little cautious, but give him time and a cozy spot to settle in, and you’ll see his sweet and loving personality shine.

If you think Gilligan could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Nevins Farm Adoption Center in Methuen. We have open adoption hours Tuesday–Sunday from 12:00 p.m.–4:30 p.m., with no appointment or application needed.

**FEE WAIVED MAY 29-31** Meet Cookie! This sweet, sensitive girl is looking for a quiet and understanding home to call her own. She came to us when her family’s landlord stopped allowing pets, after they raised her from a puppy. Cookie has a history of house training, loves to snuggle up to her people, and easily self-entertains with toys. Once she feels safe, she truly believes she is a lap dog.

Cookie is shy, and can be fearful with new people and in new environments. When uncomfortable, she may try to avoid interaction or communicate that she needs space. She’s looking for a patient adopter who understands dog body language and can read her in these moments, advocate for her needs, and help her feel safe and comfortable as she settles in. Cookie has shown that she is uncomfortable around other dogs, and would prefer to be the only dog in the home. She’ll need an adopter who is committed to avoiding dog-heavy environments and can provide leash walks in quiet areas or access to private, fenced-in spaces. A nice quiet neighborhood will be best for her comfort.

Cookie has a history of living with a cat, and could be successful again with slow, thoughtful introductions. She may do well in a home with kids who can help provide structure and training support as she continues to learn, and who understand to let her approach and interact on her terms. With time, consistency, and positive reinforcement, Cookie will be a deeply loving, affectionate companion. She is searching for a calm home, a predictable routine, and someone who is ready to meet her where she is, and earn her trust one gentle step at a time.

Stop by Northeast Animal Shelter to meet Cookie. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 11:30am-5pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.

Meet Snowball! FEE-WAIVED MAY 29-31

This happy little meatball is all wiggles and enthusiasm for life. Snowball is the kind of dog who wakes up every day ready for an adventure, whether that’s hiking trails, going for a run, playing in the yard, or just being your goofy sidekick through it all.

Snowball has a positive history living with kids and would do best with adopters who are excited to continue his training and help him learn when it’s time to play and when it’s time to settle. Kids in the home should be comfortable around a bouncy, energetic pup and ready to join in on the fun.

He’d also be okay with a canine friend who enjoys rough-and-rowdy play sessions just as much as he does! Any potential dog siblings should come by for an on-campus meet-and-greet to make sure everyone’s a good match.

If you’re looking for a joyful, active companion with a whole lot of personality packed into one wiggly body, Snowball might just be your guy. His adoption fee will be waived this weekend during our emergency adoption event.

Stop by Northeast Animal Shelter to meet Snowball. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 11:30am-5pm - no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.
