We don't euthanize based on how much the treatment will cost or how adoptable the animal is! Meet Bleu

Bleu is a Bassett Hound, approximately 4years old(Aug), neutered, current on age appropriate vaccinations, HW postive(already finished a round of Doxy), microchipped, appropriately 48lbs, trained & house trained. He is VERY vocal like most hounds. He needs his furever home to be a house (no apartments/duplex/townhouses)Bleu does require a fully secured fenced in yard. He knows sit, kennel, inside, outside. Bleu's leash skills are lacking. Loves going for car rides but wants to be a back seat driver. He loves playing with other dogs, does play very rough. Bleu loves nylabones & is a goofy boy. No small kids, smaller dogs & cats. He can be a lot for the senior dog in his foster home. Please consider opening your heart & home to Bleu.

Meet Meatball!

This 2 year old Rottweiler is as lovable and goofy as her name suggests. When Meatball first came to us she weighed about 96 lbs, but she’s been doing great on her weight loss journey and should slim down to a healthier 70–75 lbs. We’re so proud of the progress she’s making! Meatball is current on vaccinations, microchipped, kennel trained, spayed and house trained. She can be a little shy and standoffish when meeting new people, but once she knows you, she loves you BIG. True to her name, she’s a bit of a wrecking ball when she gets excited and loves to run and play. Meatball also gets along well with other dogs. Cat neutral. If you’re looking for a big, goofy, loyal companion, Meatball might just be your girl!

💵 IT’S $5 FRIDAY 💵

APAWS wants to encourage you to donate just $5 (or more if you can) to help the animals we bring in to Apaws care from all over the state of Louisiana. If every follower on our page donated just $5, we would have over $33,000! Imagine the amazing things we could do to help save so many lives. The shelters in our area are overflowing and we are receiving so many pleas to rescue. Two things hinder our ability to help animals in need- Funds & Foster Homes!

So please, donate today for $5 Friday! These animals desperately need our help and so many of us are trying endlessly to save as many animals as we can. We need YOUR help to save them! APAWS could really use some help right now. As a non-profit, we rely on donations from our community to be able to do what we do. Whether that be donations of gently used items, donations from our amazon wishlists or monetary donations to the rescue- we could really use some support from our community in times like this.

***We could really use dog food, long lasting chews, crate covers(all sizes), cat food(dry), 42/48/54 wire crates.***

You can drop off items to the PetSmart at the Petsmart in Gonzales & tell them it’s for APAWS or items can be dropped off to our vet, Petstar Animal Care of Prairieville , Monday-Friday anytime from 8am-5pm or you can send us an email at [email protected] &/or message us here on facebook to schedule a pick up/drop off with one of our volunteers.

This is not the update we wanted to share. Just one day after welcoming Rufus into APAWS, we had to let him cross the Rainbow Bridge. Rufus tested positive for distemper and unfortunately, his little body had already been through too much. Rufus was only about 7 months old. He should have had his entire life ahead of him. Please let his story be a reminder of just how important it is to vaccinate your animals. Canine distemper is a devastating, highly contagious disease but it is PREVENTABLE through proper vaccination. There are low cost vaccine clinics and resources available in our community. Please use them. A vaccine could have changed Rufus’s entire story. Thank you to his foster and sponsor Kaycee for getting him so that he could have a fighting chance. She showed up for him when his owners, who were supposed to love him most, gave up on him. We also want to say a huge thank you to our incredible veterinary team at Petstar Animal Care of Prairieville for caring for Rufus and doing absolutely everything they could for him. We are so grateful for the compassion they showed him and for always being there for our animals, even when the outcome is one none of us want.

We only got to love Rufus for one day, but we are grateful that his last day was spent safe, loved and surrounded by people who fought for him. He mattered. And we are so sorry we couldn’t save him. Run free, Rufus. You deserved so much more…
