Founded in 1979, the Capital Area Animal Welfare Society (CAAWS) is the first NO-KILL non-profit animal organization/shelter committed to the well-being of animals in the Baton Rouge community. Our volunteers can be found caring for animals in their home, photographing and videoing animals for adoption, performing shelter maintenance and cleaning, purchasing and stocking supplies, returning phone calls and emails, making public appearances with adoptable pets, visiting nursing home patients with their pets, performing educational presentations to children, fundraising, assisting and educating the community in spay/neuter efforts, and working on special events just to name a few.

Fiona is certainly enjoying this gorgeous fall weather today! 🤩🍂 Fiona is a 1.5-year-old Labrador mix who loves playing outside and cuddling with her person! Fiona is super affectionate and timid, so the shelter gives this sweet girl some bad anxiety 😔 She would absolutely benefit from a foster home. Fiona does great with cats and kids, but she is dog selective. If you want to meet Fiona and see how wonderful this sweet girl really is, stop by 6357 Quinn Dr. this Saturday anytime from 11-3 in Baton Rouge, LA! 💓🐾

🖤 Happy Pitbull Awareness Month from the two sweetest pittie boys we know, Bruno and Drako! October is dedicated to breaking the negative stereotypes around pitbulls. When it comes to pitbulls, people are often apprehensive about adopting them because of the common misconceptions about the breed. Pitbulls are wonderful, affectionate, loyal dogs, and Bruno and Drako both prove that to be true!

🩵 Bruno is a 6-month-old pit mix who is easygoing and loves to play! Bruno LOVES other dogs and doesn’t know a stranger! 😁

❤️ Drako is an 8-year-old pit mix who’s a volunteer favorite! He is so affectionate and just wants to be your couch buddy.🥰 He loves toys, playing outside with other gentle-natured dogs, and curling up in your lap. Drako is dog selective and is not a fan of higher energy dogs.

Come meet these two handsome boys on Saturday at 6357 Quinn Dr. in Baton Rouge anytime from 11-3!

Happy Monday from beautiful Duchess!
Meet Duchess! Duchess is a 4 and a half year old DSH Siamese mix who’s ready to show you how royal she is! 👑
Duchess is laid back, affectionate, and introverted. Once she warms up to you though, she’s a total velcro kitty! Duchess enjoys the company of other cats, but is not a fan of dogs, so a home without dogs and other with cats she can befriend would be best. Our next public cat adoption is October 24, but in the meantime you can apply to adopt Duchess at our website CAAWS.org and an adoption counselor should reach back out to you within 48 hours.
