🐾 Furry Friend Feature: Charley 🐾

That fluff. Those eyes. That whole gentle-giant energy... 😍🐶

Meet Charley, a stunning 5-year-old Newfoundland who stopped by PetWellClinic Highland Park — and at nearly 150 pounds, she's easily one of the biggest patients we've had walk through our doors! 💙

Newfies are famous for being big-hearted, mellow, and endlessly patient, and Charley is no exception. She settled right in like she owned the place. 🐾

Big dogs come with big-dog considerations, too — joint health, weight management, and keeping an eye on the heart all matter more as the giant breeds age. Regular wellness exams are how we stay ahead of it, so gentle giants like Charley keep feeling their best for years to come.

Thank you to Charley's family for bringing this sweet girl in to see us. She made our whole day! 🐾

🐾 Furry Friend Feature: Oz 🐾

That face. Those ears. That look of a puppy who is pretty sure something is about to happen... 😍🐶

Meet Oz, a handsome 2.5-month-old Staffordshire Terrier who came into PetWellClinic Highland Park in mid-July to start his Plus Puppy Package! 💙

The Plus Package keeps Oz on schedule for his vaccine series, and every visit also includes a full physical exam, a nail trim, and a free dose of heartworm prevention. Down here in Louisiana, mosquitoes don't wait for a puppy to grow up — so getting him started early is a big deal.

Thank you to Oz's family for giving this little guy such a great start. We can't wait to watch him grow! 🐾

🐾 Furry Friend Feature: Gizmo 🐾

That smile. Every single time. 😍🐶

Meet Gizmo, a 12-year-old Pit Bull and certified Best Boy who comes into PetWellClinic Highland Park with more energy than dogs a third his age. He greets our team with the biggest grin the second he walks through the door — though we suspect it has something to do with knowing we always have a treat waiting for him. 💙

Senior pets like Gizmo are exactly why routine wellness care matters so much. Regular exams help us spot changes early, when there's the most we can do about them. And when chronic conditions like arthritis do show up with age, we're here to help manage them — keeping our senior friends comfortable and moving well for years to come.

Thank you to Gizmo's family for taking such great care of him. Twelve years young and still the happiest guy in the room! 🐾

Meet Peppa and Mia, a beautiful pair of Catahoulas who came into PetWellClinic Highland Park for vaccine updates and preventive care! 💙

☀️ Beat the Heat: Keeping Pets Safe in the Louisiana Summer 🐾

If it feels miserable out there to you, it feels worse to your pet — they're wearing a fur coat and they can't sweat it out the way we do. 🥵

A few simple things go a long way this time of year:

💧 Fresh water, every day. Clean, cool, and kept somewhere shaded — not baking in the sun.

🌳 Give them somewhere to cool off. Shade, fans, or air conditioning. Outdoor time should always come with an escape from the heat.

🚶 Walk early or walk late. Midday pavement in Baton Rouge can burn paw pads fast. Quick check: press the back of your hand to the concrete for 7 seconds. If you can't hold it, neither can they.

🐶 Know who's at higher risk. Flat-faced breeds like pugs and bulldogs, puppies and kittens, seniors, and overweight pets all struggle more in the heat and need extra watching.

🚨 And know the warning signs: heavy panting or drooling, lethargy or weakness, and bright red gums. Overheating can turn serious quickly — if you see these signs, get your pet somewhere cool and contact a veterinarian right away. For severe symptoms like collapse, vomiting, or disorientation, head straight to an emergency vet.

One more: never leave a pet in a parked car, even with the windows cracked. It only takes minutes.
