Yummm.. yummy. And yummy.
Mamma porcupine is munching away on her snacks for the night.

I simply love the new night headlight. This way we can feed without disturbing the nocturnal animals in our care.

Our dry and produce bill is going through the roof. Unfortunately, we are just not receiving any donations of any kind, except from 5 people this past month. Thank you❤️. We just cannot continue carrying the city of Dripping and the county of Hays.

We will close for intake until March 2027 and re-assess our path forward.

Please take all injured or orphaned wildlife to Wildlife Rehabilitation in Kendalia or see which permitted rehabber is in our area on the state website.

In the meantime, we will continue caring and releasing the animals currently in our care, and there are still several. If they are not well enough or old enough by Nov, they will need to overwinter here with us.. thinking of the baby squirrel that just started eating solids. She’s not eating acorns yet.
Or the mange old porcupine. He’s looking so much better, but his skin is not healed yet. He still looks scruffy.

We have started him on another round of treatment.

Not sure why he is doing this in his water. Is he thinking he’s swimming? Can Sulcatta’s swim?

As an African Sulcatta, he is used to hot, dry weather, however, he sure loves his water time.

Every afternoon he also gets a little bit of sprinkler time, while he grazes on the grass.

After an insanely busy week at the hospital, I come home to see Kat waiting for me, asking for love.

Butters was not happy with me giving her love.
He kept trying to butt into the love session.
Can’t wait for the new fawns to arrive.

Meet baby Fig. She was born here. Her mamma is recovering from a serious bout of ringworm and mange. When she was born her quills were soft and her fur was brown. Over the past 9 weeks her quills have hardened slightly and she’s getting darker in color. She is still nursing from mamma, so we had to rethink mamma’s medication to treat her.

Fig is starting to eat produce, leaves and kibble.

Porcupines do not like getting wet, but they will get into a body of water when it is 100F. We have seen it happening here plenty of times.
They can drown, so we never leave deep buckets of water unattended.

This is why we are in the grocery aisle every 4 days. Our policy is: if the humans are not willing to eat the food due to quality, we never give it to the animals here.

Donations towards produce are very much appreciated. Even produce donations are very much appreciated; just no garlic or onion anything- not even touching.

Arthur is such a little drama queen. Huffing; puffing.. because of his most adorable little ears, he is forgiven.

He is now almost 4 months old and has quite the personality.
I just love watching him. Did I mention that he has attitude?

When it’s hot in TX, it’s time to cool down in your pool.

Merle is taking full advantage of the idea of having a pool. Only, it’s actually a horse feed bowl that she has climbed into after we filled it with water. She barely fits in it. 😩

Life here at The Rescue House is good, even in the dry summer months.

***We wanted to say thank you to the kind people that donated to our Amazon list. We still have a few items that we need.
Solar Flood lights are high on our list.

We do not receive any funds from the city or county. We recently asked for help, but alas, the city didn’t believe our cause is persuasive enough. This will not hinder us from helping the wildlife in need, albeit it does make it challenging for us. We hope time will be kind and help will come our way.

Please remember to place fresh water out for the wildlife. Every morning we fill an entire bowl and from the camera, the skunks drink it all by themselves at night. That’s 500 ml per night.

New World Screwworm - is a parasitic fly, aka called the Man-eater fly whose larvae(maggots) burrow into open wounds and feed on living tissue of warm-blooded species.

Currently parts of 20 TX counties are under movement restrictions and executive orders are managed by TAHC.

Our founder is a certified Screwworm Inspector if you have any questions or concerns.

How to report SUSPECTED cases:
1. Isolate the animal
2. Contact Texas Animal Health Commission

Do not delay your actions.

The fawns are starting to exercise a little more daily under a controlled environment and getting weaned. This week we will tag.

We still have 5 late arrivals that are still on the bottle and stay in the nursery. They will be released prior to year’s end before they loose their spots, per TX law.

If anyone can spare a few $, we are in need of feeding bottles; ni***es; bottle caddies; 110 V heated blankets; a large digital scale; an extension cord and flood lights.
