Officer Jim, a 3 year old German Shepherd, received a 𝐕𝐞𝐭𝐂𝐀𝐓 CT scan to evaluate a fractured tooth. The detailed 3D scan helped Dr. Guillory determine that root canal therapy was the best treatment, allowing Jim to get back to work quickly.

Montana Pet Dentistry had the pleasure of working with one of Billings finest, Officer Jim! Jim is a 3-year-old German Shepherd who has many special jobs to assist his partner. At his most recent veterinary visit, the doctor discovered a fractured maxillary incisor, resulting in referral to us for further investigation. When Jim arrived, he was greeted by the staff and given the VIP treatment. After being anesthetized, he received cone beam CT imaging which gives Dr. Guillory a 3D detailed view of Jim’s teeth and surrounding maxillofacial structures. The incisor in question was a great candidate for root canal therapy, which was preferrable to extraction therapy for this tooth.

What is root canal therapy?

Root canal therapy is a dental procedure used to treat damaged or infected teeth while allowing the tooth to remain in the mouth and preserve its function. Root canal therapy involves removing the infected pulp, disinfecting the pulp cavity, followed by placement of a filling material and restoration to eliminate and prevent further bacterial invasion. Jim also received a dental cleaning to make sure his mouth was in tip-top shape. Since his procedure, Jim recovered quickly and was able to go back to work just in time for the holiday weekend!
