With the first Michigan home game comes tailgates, guests, food, noise, and a whole lot more activity around town.

Before kickoff, remember that game-day fun can create unexpected risks for pets.

Keep an eye out for:

Chocolate, grapes, onions, garlic, alcohol, and foods containing xylitol
Chicken wings, ribs, corn cobs, and other bones or food scraps
Open doors and gates when guests are coming and going
Loud crowds, yelling, music, and fireworks that may frighten pets
Unattended plates, trash bags, coolers, and drinks within reach
If your pet is nervous around crowds, give them a quiet, secure space away from the action.

Some things that look harmless around the house can be dangerous for our pets.

🍫 Chocolate can be toxic to dogs and cats.
🌸 Lilies are extremely dangerous to cats.
🌷 Tulips & daffodils can be harmful if ingested.
🌿 Sago palms & azaleas can also pose serious risks.

A simple rule: Before bringing a new plant, flower, or treat into your home, make sure it’s pet-safe.

If you suspect your pet has eaten something toxic, don’t wait for symptoms to appear—contact your veterinarian or seek emergency veterinary care.

On a hot day, a pet can go from overheated to dangerously ill in a short amount of time. Heatstroke is a true veterinary emergency.

Watch for warning signs such as:

🔥 Excessive or heavy panting
🔥 Vomiting or diarrhea
🔥 Glazed or unfocused eyes
🔥 Weakness, stumbling, or collapse
🔥 Bright red or pale gums
🔥 Rapid heartbeat or extreme lethargy

If you suspect heatstroke, move your pet out of the heat and seek emergency veterinary care immediately. Do not delay treatment while waiting to see if they improve.
