Many people are surprised to learn that cats can get heartworm disease too—even indoor cats! Mosquitoes can easily find their way inside homes and transmit heartworms through a single bite.

While heartworm disease is less common in cats than dogs, it can still cause serious and potentially life-threatening health problems.

Because there is no approved treatment for heartworm disease in cats, prevention is the best way to protect them.

With temperatures rising it’s important to remember that pets can overheat quickly!

To help keep your pets safe this summer:
• Avoid walks during the hottest parts of the day
• Always provide fresh water and shade
• Be careful with hot pavement, it can burn paw pads
• Never leave pets in a parked car

Signs of heatstroke can include excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting or collapsing. Some pets including brachycephalic breeds, seniors, and overweight pets may be at an even higher risk!
