Firstly, Maeve is doing well. She’s healing nicely, we’re adding a new medication to lubricate her scar. Sometimes she still scoots. Other times she will bunny hop, and then she occasionally walks but usually runs. Trying to keep a 6 month old pup calm is a full time job. Every leaf that blows needs to be chased and vanquished. Each bird that lands in the yard is suspect.
Next, we are humbled by the outpouring of well wishes, prayers and donations to help her through this. We were flabbergasted ( yes an old person’s word) by everyone’s response to one little puppy’s issues. Whether it was a dollar or a thousand, thank you from the bottom of our collective hearts.
Finally, we would like to thank all the people at Ohio State University Veterinary who performed this tedious 7 hour surgery. The Surgeon, the assistants, the techs and residents all made ours and Maeve’s ordeal bearable with daily reports and regular phone updates . I know when we picked her up, many commented on her personality and how she’d be missed.

We will continue to update her condition. Thanks again!

Besides being unhappy with solitary confinement and waking the household at 3 - 4 am because she could, Maeve decided 6am was a great time to get Dad to feed her and clean the dog room. But as shaky as she is, she stood for breakfast then went outside immediately for a “ walk”. Basically her standing and taking a few steps with some tension on the rear harness. Dad said she needs to work on going out due to the minute possibility that she might gain a little control. 🤞🏻

The very condensed version? Maeve, no running, no playing or rough housing as per the vet.
The moment she gets into the yard….
She’s now in solitary confinement for breaking the rules!

Today’s quick update :
Received a call from OSU Veterinary Medical Center confirming that Maeve can be picked up tomorrow morning. Currently, Dads in Ashland Ohio and will pick her up in the morning for the 8 hour drive home.
So far, we figure she will break every rule they have set for her. No diaper, no being with the rest of the pack, no exercise, stay calm and sleep alone in a crate. Do they even know her?

Maeve Update.
Her Surgery is completed and the surgeon is optimistic for her recovery. Surgery took just over 7 hours and she’s slowly coming out of the anesthesia. It may take anywhere from a few hours to a day or so to see how she responds to the surgery. We’re quite sure she’s not going to like being in recovery, but she’s being monitored constantly.
As far as when she’s coming home, it could be 5-7 days from now. Right now, we’re waiting to hear how her range of motion is.
Thank you all for your support and prayers. We will keep you updated as more information comes available.

We woke up at 6 am and can’t find the little dog. Where is she?

Well, we’re guessing Maeve is currently wondering why she’s at Ohio State and why Dads not giving her breakfast but she is scheduled for her surgery later this morning. 🤞🏻

Maeve is at Ohio State Veterinary Hospital. She will have her surgery this morning. As I stated previously, it is an intense surgery that will last approximately 6 hours. Maeve will remain in Ohio until Friday or Saturday when she will be able to come home. Then she will need to be separated from the rest of the pack from 4-6 weeks depending on how well she heals.
The house is very quiet without her. Please keep her in your thoughts that she pulls thru and surgery is a success.
