When you set up the litter box, make sure it truly is cat-friendly. So many times during consultations I would see set-ups that were designed for client appeal (meaning located in the most remote spot, too small for the cat, and rarely scooped). The litter box is such an important aspect of your cat's daily life and health, so be sure it measures up.

πŸΎβ˜€οΈ Why Summer Can Be a Difficult Time for Rescue Cats β˜€οΈπŸΎ

🌞 Summer feels happy to most of us.

Longer days. Holidays. Open windows. Time outdoors. πŸͺŸ

But for many rescue cats… summer can actually be one of the hardest times of the year. 😿

🐱 Every year, rescues see an increase in challenges during the warmer months.

🐾 More stray cats appearing.
🐾 More kittens needing help.
🐾 More abandoned cats left behind during house moves or holiday periods.

😿 And while people are understandably busy enjoying summer, adoptions and donations can sometimes slow down dramatically.

Which means rescue spaces fill up quickly.

⏰ Cats end up waiting longer.
🏠 Foster homes become stretched.
πŸ•°οΈ Rescue teams work around the clock trying to keep up.

Hot weather also creates extra difficulties for cats already living in rescue care:

🐾 Stress can increase in the heat.
🐾 Older cats and vulnerable cats may struggle more physically.
🐾 Outdoor or feral cats can find it harder to access fresh water, shade, and safe shelter.

Then there are the overlooked cats. 😿

🐱 The shy ones.
🐱 The older ones.
🐱 The cats needing indoor homes or extra understanding.

Summer can make them even easier to pass by while people focus on holidays, plans, and busy schedules.

But rescue doesn’t pause for summer.

The need is still there every single day.

🐾 Cats still need feeding. πŸ₯£
🐾 Vet bills still arrive. 🧾
🐾 Tiny kittens still need around-the-clock care. ⏰
🐾 Overlooked cats are still quietly waiting for someone to notice them. πŸ‘€

That’s why even small acts of support during summer matter so much.

πŸ’œ Sharing a rescue post.
πŸ’œ Leaving water out for outdoor cats.
πŸ’œ Donating supplies.
πŸ’œ Adopting.
πŸ’œ Fostering.
πŸ’œ Or simply helping one cat be seen.

Because while summer may feel temporary to us…

for many rescue cats, it can be a season of waiting. πŸ˜ΏπŸ’œπŸ˜»β€οΈ
