🐑 Bluetongue update 🐄

The latest update confirms one case of BTV-3 in Dumfries and Galloway, the first confirmed case in Scotland. The epidemiology of this case is not currently known. Midge activity remains high so we all need to be vigilant for further cases. Movement restrictions remain in place between control zones.

Bluetongue is a notifiable disease, if you suspect it, you must report it immediately.

Affected animals show signs including:
• Fever
• Swollen face, lips or tongue
• Drooling and mouth ulcers
• Lameness
• Nasal discharge
• Reduced milk yield
• Lethargy/weakness

If you suspect bluetongue, please contact us immediately.

💉 Vaccination remains a vital tool for reducing the signs and spread of the virus however there are some current supply challenges. It’s also important to practice good biosecurity and careful planning of any stock movements.

Please get in touch if you have any questions or concerns regarding your flock or herd.

Visit https://www.gov.uk/guidance/bluetongue-latest-situation for the most up to date guidance.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Registered Veterinary Nurse to join a small friendly team in our independent mixed practice in Lockerbie, SW Scotland.😀
The successful candidate would assist in all aspects of practice work including medical and surgical nursing, nurse consultations and some reception duties.💉
Our facilities include Idexx analysers (Catalyst, Procyte, Urinalysis and Sedivue), Ovacyte faecal analyser, digital radiography, ultrasonography, dedicated cat, dog and isolation wards, a dedicated cat waiting room and consulting room, two surgical suites, a dental area including dental x-ray facilities and a large animal consulting area.🩺
We are a small team consisting of 7 vets and 4 RVNs, 1 ANA, 4 receptionists and lots of practice dogs! The practice is open 8.30am-6pm Monday to Friday and 8.30am-12.30pm on a Saturday. As well as providing work experience for vet students, we are an authorised training practice for student nurses. We are also an ISFM Gold Cat Friendly Clinic.
We cover our own out of hours emergency work and pride ourselves in providing the best service possible for our clients and patients. Therefore, on call duties would be required, working on a shared rota with our reception and nursing team. This currently consists of 1 night every 2 weeks and 1 weekend every 8 weeks.
CPD allowance, uniform and RCVS fees all covered by the practice. Salary, holiday allowance and hours all to be discussed at interview. Our current RVNs work a 34-hour week.
