When I call all my dogs back to me, I’m being very respectful and responsible for my own dogs.
I can’t be alone in being totally fed up with rude dogs rushing in on them… followed be “it’s ok he/she is friendly”!
Or asking me the question “should they put a leash on”?
Normally by the time this question is asked, their dog is already annoying mine!
Or worse standing over them displaying aggressive signs.
I’m fed up being told it’s a public place, they are just being dogs!
“It’s not ok”

Dog Hoopers is a relatively new canine sport designed to be accessible, low-impact, and enjoyable for both dogs and handlers. It’s often compared to agility, but without the jumps and sharp turns that can strain a dog’s body.

At its core, hoopers is about guiding your dog through a smooth, flowing course made up of:

* Hoops (for running through)
* Tunnels (short and straight)
* Barrels (to send your dog around or passed)
* Gates (to create direction and control)

What makes it special

Low impact
No jumping, tight weaving, or abrupt stops. That makes it ideal for:

* Older or younger dogs
* Dogs recovering from injury
* Large breeds prone to joint stress
* Handlers who prefer a gentler sport

Fun
It’s designed to be positive and rewarding. Dogs get to run, think, and respond to cues without pressure. Handlers focus more on communication than speed.

Flowing
Courses are set up to encourage continuous movement. Instead of stop-start patterns, dogs move in smooth arcs and lines, almost like a dance.

Great for distance
One of the defining features: handlers can direct their dogs from a distance.

* You don’t need to run alongside your dog
* Verbal cues and body language become key
* Builds strong teamwork and communication

Marker Words Training Guide

Marker words tell the dog exactly what behaviour was correct and what reward is coming next.
They create clear communication and help the dog learn faster.

Use the marker at the exact moment the correct behaviour happens.

Click

Meaning: Correct — reward from my hand.

Use this when the dog performs the behaviour you want.

Examples:
• Dog makes eye contact → Click → give food
• Dog sits on cue → Click → give treat
• Dog recalls to you → Click → reward

Goal: Precise communication and reinforcement of behaviour.

Chase

Meaning: Run after the toy.

Use this to build:
• speed
• excitement
• drive toward the reward

Examples:
• Dog finishes a behaviour → Chase → throw toy
• Dog recalls fast → Chase → move toy away

Goal: Encourage fast movement and enthusiasm.

Sprinkle

Meaning: Food is scattered on the ground.

Use this when you want the dog to:
• search with their nose
• calm down slightly
• stay in the area

Examples:
• After a good behaviour → Sprinkle → toss several treats on floor
• During training breaks

Goal: Encourage sniffing and reduce arousal.

Strike

Meaning: Grab the toy and tug with me.

Use when you want:
• engagement with you
• tug play
• reward through interaction

Examples:
• Dog performs a behaviour → Strike → present tug toy
• Dog returns with toy → Strike → start tug game

Goal: Build engagement and toy drive with the handler.

Get It

Meaning: Take the reward that is already there.

Use when the reward is:
• on the floor
• placed ahead of time
• a “dead” toy

Examples:
• Dog holds position → release with Get It to food on floor
• Send dog to toy placed ahead

Goal: Release the dog to an existing reward.

Key Training Rules

✔ Marker happens at the exact correct behaviour
✔ Reward always matches the marker word
✔ Be consistent with the meaning of each word
✔ Keep rewards fast and clear

Clear markers create clear learning and help the dog understand exactly what earns the reward.

Human version.
Your boss enters a room and announces PAYDAY.
This creates a level of excitement for you.
This is the BUT!
1) did your boss pay directly into your bank account?
2) is their a cheque in your desk?
3) is the boss going to be handing you cash.
Can you see your thought process was removed from payday.

Now here is the Marker word clarity.
Instead of the boss using the word PAYDAY.
The boss uses different words
1) Bank
2) Cheque
3) Cash
They all still mean payday, but you are not left guessing where it is.

🐾 A Dog is for Life — and for Every Weather 🐾

Before you bring a dog into your home, remember: you’re signing up for around 15 years of love, loyalty… and walks — in sunshine, rain, wind, and snow. ☀️🌧️❄️💨

Being a responsible dog owner means getting out there even when it’s not convenient. Your dog doesn’t understand “bad weather” — just excitement to explore, sniff, and spend time with you.

So if you’re thinking about getting a dog, ask yourself:
🐶 Will I still walk them when it’s pouring rain?
🐾 Will I commit for their whole lifetime, not just for Christmas?
❤️ Because dogs deserve more than moments — they deserve a lifetime of care.
