Reflecting on a wonderful weekend of conservation, biology and captive husbandry at the European Turtle Alliance conference. Incredibly educational and welcoming. Well done to all the speakers for sharing their knowledge and expertise, it helps us all make more informed decisions and cascade information to others in the field.

All - keep an eye out for the next one 👀

Thank you to local residents who have recently donated pots, sleepers and arid grasses to enable me to create a further 2 areas for foster tortoises 🐢

This week we've got 3 going out to new homes from us, with the overall tally tracked by The Norfolk Tortoise Club at 103 tortoises rehomed this year (and counting!).

Sadly there are still many more tortoises needing homes, than good households coming forward to take them on 🏠

Due to the time of year we are winding down our rehoming service, but if you are fully setup with an indoor/ heated enclosure AND have a fridge or garage ready for a short hibernation you can still apply on the rehoming page Www.tortoiseclub.org 🍁🍂

Think you've lost your tortoise? Think again!

Excellent masters of disguise and survival.

On an important note - we'd strongly advise bringing your tortoises inside overnight from now on (and only out at 15C+). Get your heat lamps on now to keep extending the Summer season - replicating the seasons they would have in the wild.

The 2027 A4 charity tortoise calendar is now in stock. There is a healthcare tip or tortoise fact on every month, with a w**d feeding guide on the back. £10 each with every penny made going back into to the rescue charity.

Particularly proud of this years design, as it features many of the foster tortoises I've personally helped with. Its also printed locally in Cambs 💚

It is on the The Norfolk Tortoise Club eBay shop for those needing postage (see link in comments).

A few will be available to collect locally at Ely Aquatics & Reptiles providing you message me/ pay in advance.

Or collect from me personaly if we are already in touch 🐢

Metabolic bone disease - rickets

Ever prevalent in our surrendered tortoises yet totally preventative! Here's how:

Natural sunshine, calcium (limestone flour and nutrobal), wild food (w**ds). Short, 10 week hibernations.

⬆️ Most of this is DIRT CHEAP to do. When its not followed the consequences are permanent to the tortoise.
Yes we can soften the impact, and yes they adapt, but the physical issue's will always be obvious.

Great place to stockup on your nutrobal and annual UV bulbs 💡 😀 🐢

Do you keep Sulcatas?

Very difficult to find good quality setup pictures of insulated, heated, fully equipt outbuildings for adults 80kg+. Please share your examples for our care guides.

Lets get the best practice examples to the forefront so we can promote the best 👌

🐢If you keep an African sulcata tortoise we need you! 🐢

We are looking for photos of winter indoor sulcata set ups to add to our rehoming guides.

What we need to see:

🏠Appropriate space given (minimum 4m x 2m)

🌱Substrate that allows for digging

💡Suitable UV lighting

Well done to everyone who has rehomed in recent weeks, and given wonderful homes to our very deserving dinosaurs 🐢💚👏

Lots of rehoming enquiries have been received, and responses have been sent on FB messenger, regards setup requirements.

If you are now ready to progress please get back in touch, still a few fosters to place 🙏

(Rehoming process details in the comments).

Mondays can be a bit 💩

Always lovely to hear from our rehomers on how well torts are settling in. I think this one is eating like a Queen! 🤪
