We’re more than “just groomers”…
People often think dog grooming is all cuddles, bubble baths, blow dries and a fresh trim… and yes, there’s plenty of that😂!! But there’s another side to our job that isn’t spoken about nearly enough.
When we groom your dog, we’re working hands on with almost every part of their body. We see their skin underneath their coat. We handle their paws and pads. We look around their ears, eyes and mouth. And because we see many of our dogs regularly, we can sometimes notice when something looks or feels different.
Over the years, we’ve found things owners simply couldn’t have known were there - unusual marks and changes to the skin, sore and inflamed areas hidden underneath coats, lumps and bumps, problems between paw pads, dental concerns and even foreign objects caught inside mouths.
We are not vets and we would never try to diagnose a medical condition. But sometimes, we are the people who spot something first and say: “We think you need to get this checked by your vet.”
And occasionally, that conversation can be incredibly important.
That’s why grooming is so much more than making your dog look lovely. Regular grooming gives us an opportunity to get familiar with your dog and notice changes that might otherwise remain hidden underneath their coat.
So when you collect your dog and we mention a lump, a sore patch, their teeth, their ears or something else we’ve noticed, we’re not trying to worry you. We’re telling you because we care. 🤍
We might be groomers, but sometimes we’re also that little step between “I hadn’t noticed that” and “I’m going to call the vet.”
And that’s a part of our job we take very seriously🐾!!
