Norman the Border Terrier came in for a hand strip ✂️🐾
Handstripping is a technique commonly used on coats where maintaining the natural texture is important. Rather than simply clipping the coat, handstripping involves carefully removing the mature, dead outer coat by hand (or with a stripping knife) to encourage the new, harsher coat to come through.
For Norman, the aim was to maintain that typical Border Terrier coat texture and shape while removing the loose, mature hairs that were ready to come out. It takes time, patience and a good understanding of the coat cycle to strip correctly, rather than just taking everything off at once.
Done properly, handstripping helps preserve the characteristic harsh, weather-resistant texture of the Border Terrier coat and gives a much more natural finish than clipping.
Norman was such a good boy throughout his groom, and I loved working with his coat! 🤎🐶
If you have a dog that may be suitable for handstripping and you’re unsure whether it’s the right option, feel free to get in touch and I can chat through the options with you.
