📰 Western Wheel Wednesday!

It’s wonderful to see this next chapter for Sheep River Dog Rescue featured in the Western Wheel, and we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to share a little more about how our new home came to be!

While we’ve shared the exciting news about finding a place to call home, there’s one important detail we’d like to clarify. Sheep River Dog Rescue has not purchased the building. Instead, it was purchased by a generous private benefactor specifically to provide our rescue with a dedicated space to operate from. 🐶

We’ll be renting the property, with the long-term goal of eventually purchasing it ourselves. This opportunity gives our rescue a place to put down roots and build something lasting for the dogs and our community.

Of course, this next chapter also comes with significant financial responsibilities. As a 100% volunteer-run and donation-funded organization, we’ll be responsible for monthly rent, necessary renovations, and the costs of transforming the space into everything we envision it becoming.

Having a dedicated home in Okotoks is a huge milestone for our rescue, and none of it would be possible without the generosity of those who believe in what we do. We’re so grateful for the support that has brought us this far and can’t wait to see what the future holds!

🧱 Our Brick by Brick campaign is helping us bring this vision to life, and we’d love for you to be part of it!

💜 Lou 💜

• Age: 10 months old
• Breed: Likely Husky/Shepherd/Heeler mix
• S*x: Female

✅ Incredibly smart and eager to learn
✅ House trained and well-mannered indoors
✅ Loves walks, training and mental enrichment
✅ Health-checked, vaccinated, dewormed & microchipped

Our lovely Lou from the Heartland litter is back in our care and hoping to find her perfect match! 💜

At 10 months old, Lou has grown into one incredibly intelligent, affectionate girl who has so much to offer the right person.

Lou absolutely loves having something to do! Whether it’s exploring on a walk, practicing her skills or working through a puzzle, she’s happiest when her mind and body are kept busy. And once she’s had her exercise, she’s more than happy to relax and enjoy some downtime.

Her previous family put an incredible amount of love and effort into her training, and she’s got some wonderful skills to show for it! She’s also been doing great in her foster home, where she’s continuing to learn and make progress every day.

Lou does have some specific needs, and finding the right home for her is especially important.

She has a strong prey drive and a history of incidents involving small animals, so she’ll need a home without cats, small pets or poultry. An adult only home is preferred, as Lou can get over excited around young children.

Lou has enjoyed the company of other dogs in her foster home, but she has a history of resource guarding that has led to conflicts with another dog. Any potential canine companions would need careful introductions and proper management.

We’re looking for an experienced, active adopter who can provide Lou with structure, continued training and plenty of opportunities to put her clever mind to work.

Lou really is a special girl, and we know there’s someone out there who will appreciate everything she has to offer. She just needs the right environment and someone who’s ready to help her shine. If Lou sounds like the pup for you, apply to adopt her today! 💜🏡

The dogs need us, and we need you! 💙🐾

The excitement surrounding our new building has been incredible, but there’s still a lot of work ahead before we can turn this space into something that will make a lasting difference for dogs in need.

With significant monthly rent to cover and necessary renovations to complete, bringing our vision to life comes with some very real expenses. As a volunteer-run, 100% donation-funded rescue, we rely on the generosity of those who believe in what we do.

Since 2018, that generosity has helped us save over 400 dogs! From our roots in the Foothills to our supporters throughout Calgary and beyond, you’ve played an important role in getting us here. Now, we’re asking for your help to take this next step.

Whether you’re looking for a meaningful way to give back, honour a loved one or pet, or involve your business in a cause close to your heart, we’d love for you to be part of it.

Please consider contributing to our Brick by Brick campaign and help us create a lasting impact in the lives of rescue dogs for years to come. 🐶🐾
