A belated post for the last month!
We headed to Quirindi 3DE at the end of August with Anna McCreery’s Mayfair in her first long format 1*, and Alan Stafford’s Peanut Butter doing his first ever event (first competition, first dressage test & first XC course).
A nice 10th place finish for Mayfair after a slightly disappointing dressage score, a mega clear inside the time XC, and just a rail SJ.
Then Peanut exceeded all expectations, being a very nervous horse (and just a little bit weird) we didn’t know what we’d get. But a great dressage test, followed by a very green XC round where he grew in confidence, to then finish with a clear SJ to take 12th place. A great weekend all round & so good to have Dad over from England to support us.
They then both headed to Quirindi show two weeks later for the show jumping, along with our little Connie X Hastings for his first competition.
Some good rounds in the 1m & 1.10m for Mayfair with the odd pole but getting more and more confident at the bigger heights, then a couple of very green round from Hastings on the Saturday, quite distracted by the rest of the agricultural show, but redeemed himself with a nice round on Sunday.
Peanut jumped two great rounds, surprisingly not bothered by the agricultural show atmosphere, and topped it off by hacking beautifully to the polo, past cars, and people and camels, a pretty impressive feat for how nervous he can be around people !
The two youngsters are now on a nice holiday while we focus on the polo ponies, but Mayfair got a trip to Scone Showjumping at the weekend. Both of us a bit asleep on Saturday, but redeemed ourselves on Sunday with a 5th in the 1m, and then finally a double clear in the 105 & a good jump off to finish 2nd !
A small milestone for some but we’ve really been struggling to get that 105 clear round, so to have two clears and a good jump off, it’s finally starting to feel like the work we’ve been putting in is paying off. Thanks to Victoria Fellowes @ Hillview for the help !
As always, a huge thank you to all the events for a great time & great organisation. Anna & Scott for the horses and never ending support. Laura for keeping the horses going when I’m off competing, everyone that helps and supports at events, dad for coming over from England just to groom for me again, and so good to have Aldford Apparel Ltd supporting me all the way from the other side of the globe too. Thank you Leesa Darlington Davies for some beautiful gear and the years of support !!
