Never enough bunnies! Even my tertiary assignments can’t escape. 🤭

Quite proud of the work I put into my literature review, looking at the benefits of forage in a rabbit’s diet through an enrichment lens, and the impact this can have on rabbit welfare.

It was also an opportunity to explore something I’m already quite interested in: rabbit snacks, forage variety and alternative feeding methods. I’ve always been interested in looking beyond the standard feeding routine and exploring how we can better encourage natural behaviours through food.

It would be interesting to see where this could develop in the future. Maybe one day I’ll conduct my own little fun studies comparing which types of forage and snacks my rabbits prefer, while continuing to build my understanding of enrichment and its role in reducing abnormal behaviours to aid and assist the wider community.

Always something new to learn about keeping rabbits.🥰

A little reflection on our rabbit hopping demonstrations at the Melbourne Royal 2026.

This was a bit different to our usual hopping days we attend, with the focus being on demonstrating rabbit hopping to the public and giving people an opportunity to see what our rabbits can do.

I also had the opportunity to present and speak about hopping throughout part of the day, which was something I was slightly nervous for but very much enjoyed the opportunity and hope to maybe do similar again one day. It was great to be able to explain more about the sport, the rabbits involved and what goes into getting them comfortable and confident on a course. And welcoming new people.

Fernwood has only been involved in hopping since 2024 and helped found the beginnings of the club (Victorian Rabbit Hopping Society), so it has been interesting to see how much both the rabbits and I have learnt along the way. Days like this are a good reminder that hopping is about handling, confidence, communication and understanding the individual rabbit. As well as learning together and within the greater community.
