Adorable? Undoubtedly.

But behind these tiny faces is a reality that is much harder to look at.

These neonate kittens were born to a young, free-roaming, undesexed mum. They were lucky. They found their way to CPSV, where they now have warmth, safety and people fighting to give them the very best chance at life.

But thousands of kittens just like them are born into very different circumstances — on the streets, under houses, in backyards and industrial areas — where they face hunger, disease, injury and a daily fight for survival.

Right now, these tiny kittens need around-the-clock foster care while their precarious little lives hang in the balance. Our hope is simple: that they grow, gain strength and thrive.

If all goes well, they will remain with one of our incredible volunteer foster carers until they are ready for adoption at around 10 weeks of age. Throughout that time, CPSV provides everything they need — food, bedding, supplies, veterinary treatment and ongoing support.

And the cost?

For an eight-week foster stay, including the veterinary care required to desex, vaccinate and microchip each kitten, the cost to CPSV can exceed $1,200 per kitten.

As a not-for-profit organisation, we do this work without ongoing government funding.

So while these photos might make you smile, we hope they also make you think about what we can collectively do to prevent more kittens being born into uncertainty.

Today is R U OK? Day

It’s a reminder to check in with the people around us, start meaningful conversations and make space for the simple question: R U OK?

At CPSV, we also know just how powerful the companionship of a cat can be. From the comfort of a quiet purr and a warm lap, to the routine, connection and unconditional companionship they bring, cats can play an incredible role in supporting our mental and physical wellbeing.

They may not be able to ask “R U OK?” — but somehow, they often seem to know when we need them most.

Today, check in with someone you care about. And if you’re lucky enough to share your home with a feline friend, perhaps give them an extra cuddle too.

And because every cat owner knows cats really do make everything better, we’d love to see the furry little therapists in your life!

We receive the cutest mail!

A very special letter recently arrived from Sophie and Poppy, two of our lovely regular shelter visitors, who took it upon themselves to put together a list of name suggestions for the cats and kittens who come into our care.

And with our busy spring and summer period quickly approaching, we have a feeling this list is going to come in very handy!

Sophie and Poppy, thank you for thinking of our cats, for sharing your creativity with us and for helping make the very important job of naming our newest arrivals that little bit easier.

We absolutely loved receiving your letter!

Our fabulous foster carers are in the glossies!

We are so incredibly grateful to each and every one of our amazing CPSV foster carers. They are an invaluable part of our Society, opening their homes and hearts to cats and kittens who need a little extra time, care and TLC before they’re ready to find their forever homes.

And we were absolutely thrilled when New Idea Magazine chose to shine a spotlight on one of those wonderful foster carers — Deb and her family, who have incredibly provided foster care to well over 300 cats and kittens.

Deb is just one of the many extraordinary people who make our foster care program possible, but we hope that by sharing her story far and wide, we can introduce even more people to the important work of CPSV — and perhaps inspire a few new foster carers to join our community along the way.

A huge thank you to Deb and her family for sharing their story, to all of our CPSV foster carers for everything you do, and to New Idea for helping us spread the word about the life-changing difference foster care can make.

Today is Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day — a day dedicated to honouring the much-loved pets who may no longer be by our side, but who remain forever in our hearts.

At CPSV, we know just how special the bond between a person and their cat can be. They become part of our families, our routines, our happiest memories and our homes — and when the time comes to say goodbye, the space they leave behind can feel immeasurable.

Cats like Tully as pictured. Tully’s ongoing health conditions meant she wasn’t available for adoption, but that certainly didn’t stop her from finding a very important role of her own.

She became the self-appointed 2IC to our Operations Manager, happily spending her days overseeing proceedings, offering her subject matter expertise on all things cats and, of course, making regular attempts to steal lunch. Pumpkin soup was always a particular favourite.

Tully was a much-loved part of the CPSV family and brought so much personality, companionship and joy to the team around her.

Today, we remember Tully and all the cats who gave us comfort, companionship, laughter, head bumps, purrs and unconditional love. The ones we still find ourselves thinking about years later. The ones whose favourite spot may now be empty, but whose place in our hearts never will be.

A very big thank you to the wonderful teaching team and students at Bundoora Primary School for inviting the CPSV team along for a very special visit!

We loved chatting with the students about life at our Adoption Shelter, the cats who come into our care and what it means to be a responsible cat owner.

And, of course, there was plenty of creativity involved! Students coloured and named their very own CPSV cat, created posters showing what cats need to live happy and healthy lives, and even designed their own T-shirts encouraging the local community to “Adopt, Don’t Shop!”

To make the visit even more special, the Bundoora Primary School community also very generously donated blankets, toys and food for the cats in our shelter — a beautiful gesture that will directly help the cats currently in our care.

It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm, kindness and care for cats from the next generation of animal lovers.

Thank you, Bundoora Primary School, for having us and for supporting our cats in such a thoughtful way — we had an absolutely paw-some time!

A birthday party 80 years in the making!

With the very generous support of the wonderful team at North East Community Fund, we’re thrilled to share that we’ll be celebrating our 80th Birthday with a very special party for our cat-loving community!

We can’t wait to mark eight decades of caring for cats alongside the people who have supported, championed and loved them with us along the way.

For now, pop the date in your calendar and keep your whiskers tuned — we’ll be sharing lots more about this very special celebration in the new year!

Meet Scarlet — our second CPSV Choice Purrfect Pin Up! ❤

Scarlet was selected because her story carries an incredibly important message. She is a powerful reminder of the urgent need to desex as many Victorian cats as possible, helping to prevent unwanted litters and reduce the number of cats and kittens born into suffering on our streets.

By sharing Scarlet’s story, we hope to shine a light on why desexing matters so much — and the difference it can make to the lives of cats across our community.

"Scarlet is a super sweet and chatty little tortie girl. When I adopted her from CPSV she was 18 months old, had been found on the street and had just had kittens. She’s tiny but sassy and still very playful. She loves her toys almost as much as she loves cuddles"

Introducing our first CPSV Choice Purrfect Pin Up — the beautiful Ribbon!

While the public vote determined our other Purrfect Pin Ups, the CPSV Choice Award gave our team the opportunity to recognise two very special cats whose stories captured the heart of what Cat Protection Society of Victoria is all about.

Ribbon was selected as a wonderful advocate for multi-cat households and for everything we love about cats as companion animals. He is a beautiful reminder of just how much joy, personality, comfort and companionship cats bring into our lives — and how rewarding it can be to open your home and heart to more than one.

We’re delighted to have Ribbon representing this important message as part of our 2027 Purrfect Pin Up calendar.

"Rib is our first CPS adopted fur baby. He is also our first ever cat. We now have three. Which is Rib’s fault because he is the most joyful creature that ever existed. Our inverted tux is perfect combo of affectionate, playful and quirky. He loves ‘hunting’ his soft-toys and gifting them to us and is weirdly obsessed with a sports massage gun that makes his ears go aeroplane mode. When he’s being a bad panda he likes to push books off the bedside table or chew the corner of monitors. We are 4 and counting. Worth it. Love him."
