Over 600 cats. Thousands of future kittens spared from suffering. And it’s all thanks to you.

To everyone who has already donated to our Fix the Future appeal — thank you. 💛

So far, your support has helped fund desexing procedures for more than 600 cats in need through our Community Desexing Program.

That is a very real, very powerful step towards preventing unwanted kittens from being born into a life of hunger, hardship, illness and fear.

But we still have more to do.

Our goal is to fund 2,000+ desexing procedures, helping prevent the birth of up to 10 million kittens who may otherwise be born into suffering. Because while rehoming will always be at the heart of what we do, we know we must also address the root cause of feline overpopulation: undesexed cats.

When photos tell a thousand words.

We absolutely love receiving updates on cats who have been adopted from our shelter, and this one has melted our hearts.

Sweet Ben has just celebrated one whole year in the care of his wonderful humans, and by the looks of these photos, he is living his very best life. From shelter cat to cherished family member, Ben’s journey is exactly why adoption is so special.

Happy 1-year adoptiversary, beautiful Ben! Here’s to many more years of love, cuddles and cosy naps.

"Just thought I’d give you an update on Ben. It’s almost been a year since I adopted the sweet pea!

He is doing so well and has gained so much confidence. He likes sitting in the bed with me for a little snuggle and scratch. He loves rolling around on the lying on his back and playing with his favourite toys. He also likes to meet everyone that’s comes into the house and loves when everyone is on the same room, so can go from person to person for a pet. It has been so rewarding to watch him open up and become more comfortable!"

Rehoming cats in need will always be central to what we do at the Cat Protection Society of Victoria. Every cat who comes through our doors deserves safety, care and the chance to be loved.

But we also know that rehoming alone won’t solve the growing issue of cat overpopulation in Victoria.

That’s why, last year, we launched Fix the Future — our appeal focused on prevention, not just rescue.

And thanks to the incredible support of Victorian cat lovers, we were able to desex almost 1,000 cats through our community desexing program, helping to prevent countless unwanted kittens being born into a life of hardship.

This year, our goal is even bigger.

We’re hoping to raise $200,000, which would allow us to desex 2,000 cats and help prevent the birth of more than 1 million unwanted kittens.

Because every kitten deserves to be born to be loved.

It might be the beginning of winter, but kitten season clearly didn’t get the memo…

Our adoption shelter is still busy with tiny paws, big personalities and even bigger hopes for a happily furever after.

Kittens like Barbara, Penelope, Sir Fluffernugget, Fred and Lulu are all patiently — okay, maybe not that patiently — waiting to kick-start life beyond the confines of the shelter and into loving homes of their very own.

So, if you’ve been thinking about welcoming a kitten into your family, now is the purrfect time to pop in and visit.

You never know who might steal your heart… although with a name like Sir Fluffernugget, some of them are clearly not playing fair.

We’re looking for volunteers to join our Purrfect Paw Café team!

Open 7 days a week from 10am–2pm, our onsite café helps raise funds to support CPSV’s work caring for and rehoming Victorian cats in need.

We’re looking for outgoing, cat-loving people who enjoy a good chat and want to make a meaningful difference. Café or barista experience is a bonus, but not essential — training can be provided.

While the role is unpaid, the rewards include time with our shelter cats, plenty of feel-good moments, and the joy of helping every cat find their happily furever after.

To all our burger-loving, cat-loving friends — and the wonderful team Bundoora — a heartfelt thank you for your support throughout May!

We’re pretty chuffed to share that, thanks to you, our little Local Matters donation jar received the most tokens for the month. That means Grill’d Bundoora will be making a donation to CPSV to help cats and kittens in need.

This is an honest conversation from the heart of Cat Protection Society Victoria.

In this raw interview, members of our CPSV team share what they see every day: kittens arriving too young, pregnant cats who are still babies themselves, frightened strays who have already endured more than they ever should, and a shelter system constantly trying to keep up with suffering that could have been prevented.

At CPSV, rehoming will always be central to what we do. Every cat who comes through our doors deserves safety, veterinary care, patience, love and the chance to find a home.

But we also know that rehoming alone cannot fix the future.

If we want fewer kittens born into hardship, fewer cats living on the streets, fewer families facing impossible decisions, and less pressure on shelters, pounds and rescue groups, we need to focus on prevention.

That means desexing more cats. Supporting communities who need help. Working with local councils and welfare organisations. And addressing the root cause of feline overpopulation before another generation of kittens is born into suffering.

This is why our Fix the Future appeal matters so deeply to our team.
