Building building building!

I see a lot of people rewarding puppies in front of them and then wonder why they struggle later to get a puppy to heel.

Reinforce the behaviours from the start that you actually want, rather than what’s easier.

First time seeing the box and Athena figured it out pretty quick.

You’ll see the box feature quite a bit over the next few weeks and if you want a more in depth explanation then you’ll have to sign up to my online community!

After the combined marker and box session I turned it into an obstacle to look at the confidence level in the pup.

Nice pup, very engaged and eager to trade behaviour for food!

Building a marker is one of my first training priorities in raising puppies.

In this case I’ll install a mechanical marker first, which will have a recall response overlay.

Once that marker is being proofed I’ll start working on the first of several verbal markers.

I’m all about clarity in communication with your dog with each marker having a very distinct meaning.

It’s certainly not necessary for pet owners to go to this extreme however I’m chasing a very specific set of behaviours and responses under stress.

Crate training is an absolute must in this house with each dog learning that they can in fact survive being on their own.

With some dangerous dogs coming through here it’s imperative that each dog can self settle.

It’s also a great place to allow a puppy to relax if they’re overwhelmed and also a place that they can enjoy some time chewing on some brisket

Everyone loves bite work but it’s the behaviours that underpin it that make it possible.

Confidence and socialisation are what we need most at the moment and I’m not talking about letting everyone pat your dog.

Some people are really good about it and will ask if they can pat your puppy and others just assume that it’s their right to reach out and grab for the dog.

I have zero issues telling people to keep their hands to themselves and will always advocate for my dog. I don’t know what your hands have touched or what your hygiene level is like so therefore I’ll assume you’re a grub.

As Athena has only had one vaccination I will 100% advocates for her and tell you to go on your way.

One such gentleman found out the hard way this morning that if you f**k around you’ll find out.
