🐾 Cane Corso Temperament and Understanding the Breed Standard 🐾

One of the most misunderstood aspects of the Cane Corso is their temperament.

The Cane Corso is a guardian breed. According to the breed standard, they should be confident, stable, intelligent and discerning. They are naturally protective of their family and property, but they should never be unnecessarily aggressive, nervous, or unpredictable.

A correct Cane Corso should:
✔ Be loyal and devoted to their family
✔ Be confident in new situations
✔ Be reserved with strangers without showing fear
✔ Be stable and level-headed
✔ Be intelligent and highly trainable
✔ Have the ability to assess situations before reacting

A Cane Corso is not expected to love every stranger they meet. Many are aloof, which is perfectly acceptable. However, they should be manageable, confident, and capable of being examined by a judge at a dog show without undue fear or aggression.

Temperament faults can include:
❌ Excessive fearfulness or shyness
❌ Nervous or unstable behaviour
❌ Unprovoked aggression
❌ Inability to recover from stress or environmental pressure

As breeders and owners, our responsibility is to produce and raise dogs with sound temperaments that reflect the breed’s original purpose, which is a powerful guardian with a clear mind, not a liability.

A true Cane Corso should make you feel safe because of their confidence and stability, not because they are aggressive.

🐾 Aust Ch. Darlaja Emberwolf Of Morrigan 🐾 “Ivy” ❤️

This girl just keeps getting better with age.

Now maturing beautifully, Ivy is developing into a feminine yet powerful Cane Corso with lovely breed type, excellent substance, strong bone, and a beautiful headpiece. She combines strength with elegance and carries herself with the confident, steady temperament the breed is known for.

Still young, with plenty of growing and maturing ahead of her, I’m excited to watch her continue to develop.

A special girl who makes me proud every time she steps into the ring. 🖤🐾

🐾 CH. Darlaja U Looking “Rat” 🐾

So glad to have this boy home with us again. ❤️

After a 5-month break from the show ring, Rat stepped back out today and didn’t put a foot wrong. Taking out two Reserve Dog awards and two Runner Up Best of Breed awards along the way.

Rat has always been a dog I am incredibly proud of. He is a masculine Cane Corso with lovely breed type, excellent substance, strong bone, a powerful headpiece, and the confident presence that is so important in the breed.

Most importantly, he’s settled straight back in at home as though he never left. Seeing him happy, relaxed, and enjoying life again has been the biggest win of all.

Welcome home, Rat. 🖤🐾

Two sisters, same blood, same look.

Strong, feminine, balanced just how a Corso should be. You can see the consistency right through both of them. Correct heads, solid bone, and that presence you want in the ring.

Super proud of these girls 🤍
