Luke is 11.5 years old. Yesterday was the FIRST time in his life that he did not come running up to me to volunteer as tribute to be the first one to get his nails trimmed.

Hey POTSies!

Im seeing new info about how consumption of Stevia can act as a diuretic and can cause low sodium which is the opposite of what most POTSies need. What other surprising things in your diet affect you that you would want other POTSies to know about?

Apparently I’m such a good dog trainer I’ve managed to create a mouse Einstein. I’ve got at least one mouse in my basement that I’ve spent over a week trying to unalive. It’s managed to beat THREE different kids of mouse traps. At this point, I feel like I’m just setting up a feeding station for it. Anything you guys can recommend that won’t kill a dog too?

The New York Times is reporting that HUD, the Housing and Urban Development department of the US is going to restrict emotional support animals and be more strict with service animals. I think this is a positive development for those of us with legitimate service dogs whose public access rights get constantly questioned because some idiot emotional support animal owner let their dog misbehave in public or housing situations. This industry desperately needs regulation. It’s become untenable in major metropolitan cities. I literally just did an entire hour long presentation for EMS workers about two weeks ago about this exact situation.

One year and a day ago I sat in my kitchen calling chemical companies asking them what I should do to help the dogs and I after we were sprayed with fungicides and what I later found was an insecticide by an agricultural drone. As I watched one dog after another after another get sick and possibly losing their eyesight I thought about how was I going to financially take care of these dogs emergency care and follow up. I knew there were no social programs to help so many dogs all at once that late at night. I knew no one who just had 50-100 THOUSAND dollars just sitting around ready to be used to take them to a doggie ER so my saving grace was to call 911, tell them what happened and then shoot myself in the head while on the phone with them. It was the only thing that I could think of in that moment that could guarantee my dogs would receive care. The dogs and I have lost so much this last year, it’s changed me as a person and the dogs are not the same either. One dog is dead, one has spent months blinded, three are now sound sensitive, I can never breed these dogs again due to genetic damage to the second generation from the chemicals and to top it all off I almost died in November from complications to the chemical exposure. I feel broken a lot of the time now. Almost every aspect of my life has been tainted by this tragedy. I miss Riva so much.

I can’t tell you how many emails I’ve gotten over the last several months offering for private equity firms to purchase Service Dog Academy. We know what these vultures have done to the veterinary market and how it’s ruining people’s ability to afford vet services and even get care in the first place, especially emergency care, but I had no idea they now we’re setting their sights on dog TRAINING businesses. Be careful out there. It’s getting even harder to know who to trust.

As a single female it’s hard to experience real life rescue attempts for a dog to “go get help” in my own home. First you have to have people over and second you have to have a blood sugar event. These two things never happened in my personal home. Turns out, thanks to me training pretend rescue events, Aaron learned to go get help anyway without ever experiencing a real life event in my house.

Last week we delivered Aaron to his new home to a young college student. 3 days prior to arrival she was hospitalized for a high blood sugar event. For the entire week we were transitioning him to her life in college, Aaron caught almost every single low and high blood sugar she had. She spent the entire week with not a single blood sugar over 250, with the vast majority of those highs caught around 180. He has done an amazing job helping her and is on his way to being the bestest good boy of all good boys. I miss him terribly but he gets to be her ONLY when he used to have to share time with me with the other pups in the household, how can anyone be sad about that? Keep being that good boy mister “A a ron”. We love you and your girl.

Just go get yourself an old washing machine.

In 25 minutes I have a load of dog beds completely clean. HE machine took THREE HOURS. Found this beauty on Facebook marketplace. Some kid was selling it because the old owners left it in the house he just bought. He had no idea what a workhorse he had. My win. Late 1980s model that uses water, soap and an agitator. I couldn’t be more happy. It ain’t pretty looking but It’ll probably work until I have grandchildren (which will be never). I was so tired of laundry taking forever and my new tech based machine breaking every 6 to 9 months. Probably best 25 bucks I’ve invested in 20 years.

For many people, caring for a sick pet can feel just as urgent as caring for a family member.

Italy has clarified protections allowing employees to take paid leave to care for seriously ill companion animals. The move strengthens legal recognition of pets as part of the family, reinforcing existing labor protections and outlining when workers can step away without penalty.

Animal advocates say the clarification reflects how deeply pets are woven into daily life — and could influence similar conversations in other countries.
