Boxers and Buddies

Boxers and Buddies Boxer Rescue that also saves dogs big and small from local and regional shelters and other unfortunate situations. B&B is funded solely by private donation.

Boxers and Buddies, part of the Boxer Rescue Fund, is a non-profit dog rescue located in Northern Nevada and serving Nevada and Northern California.Boxer Rescue is a nonprofit organization founded in 2005. Boxers and Buddies provides a safe, humane sanctuary for abandoned Boxers and other breeds who are waiting to be adopted. Our entire organization is run by a dedicated team of volunteers. Our g

roup works for the love of the breed and to see dogs find homes. Our available dogs come from local shelters, from the streets or from owners who turn them in. We are always filled to capacity with scared, confused and very stressed out dogs. They are with us because B&B is their last hope of finding a new life. We are their temporary haven until they are adopted into a loving permanent home. Before they can be adopted, each dog is evaluated for temperament, must be sterilized, microchipped and their shots are updated. B&B has a training program for those dogs who need rehabilitation or have behaviors which need to be modified. B&B stands apart from other rescues by rescuing any Boxer, regardless of age or health. We feel that they are all worthy of a real chance at life. This policy means that we are subject to frequent and expensive veterinarian costs. Medical expenses are only one of the major cost B&B has to pay each year. The cost are endless: food, mortgage, utilities, insurance, shelter fee, and the costs go on and on. Saving lives is not cheap but someone has to do it! It takes over $250,000 each year to keep B&B open. We are constantly seeking funds and support. We need your help. We depend on our donors and our volunteers to keep B&B open to any Boxer in need. We appreciate your compassion by including a rescue Boxer into your life. Please spread the word and continue to support our efforts.

🐾 Meet Elba! 🐾

At just 16 weeks old and 8 pounds, little Elba is the sweetest Chihuahua mix looking for her forever family!

Elba is a tiny girl with a BIG heart. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and loves being part of the pack. She’s incredibly sweet and affectionate, and she’s been learning all about life in her foster home.

She even had a little feline learning curve! After some time getting accustomed to the cat in her foster home, Elba has decided that cats are pretty okay too. 😉

She’s playful, loving, and at that perfect puppy age where she’s ready to learn, explore, and bond with her family. If you’re looking for a small companion with a whole lot of sweetness, Elba may be your girl!

💙 Comstock Is Back, and This Time We Need to Get It Right

You may remember Comstock. He was originally returned to us by his first owner after getting into the chicken coop. And honestly, that shouldn't have come as a surprise. Comstock is a Catahoula Leopard Dog. This is a breed with strong working, hunting and problem solving instincts.

We were thrilled when Comstock was adopted again. We talked extensively with his adopter about what this breed needs: a job, training, mental stimulation and physical exercise.

But after just two months, Comstock is back in rescue.

Why?

He was jumping the fence.

His second owner felt that perhaps he simply needed more land. But that's not really the answer. Comstock doesn't need more land. He needs more engagement.

Catahoulas are incredibly intelligent working dogs. They were bred to use their brains and bodies, to problem solve, hunt, work and stay engaged with their people. Giving one a huge property and expecting him to entertain himself isn't enrichment. In fact, a bigger yard can simply give a determined Catahoula more room to invent things to do. 😂 You can hike with Comstock for 20 miles and have a very tired dog physically. But if you don't give him something to think about, he'll likely find his own job.

And Comstock is very good at finding jobs.
He will counter surf.
He will dig.
He will look for ways out.
And if given access to a dog door while unsupervised, he may decide the fence is merely a suggestion.

This is not because Comstock is a bad dog. It is because Comstock is a Catahoula.

His next family needs to understand that management and training are part of responsible ownership. When Comstock is unattended, he should be safely crated. His foster is currently working on crate training with him, and this will be an important skill for his future home.

And professional positive reinforcement training is required as part of his adoption. This isn't optional. Comstock needs a person who is willing to teach him, give him appropriate outlets and continue building the skills that will help him succeed.

So who IS Comstock's person?
-Someone who wants a dog who wants to do things with them.
-Someone who enjoys hiking, exploring, training, scent work, learning new skills or simply involving their dog in everyday life.
-Someone who understands that physical exercise is only half the equation.

Body + Brain + Training + Human Connection = a happy Comstock.
And that last part is important.

Because for all of Comstock's independence, energy and Catahoula antics, he absolutely loves his people. At the end of the day, he wants companionship. He wants to be part of the family. He wants someone to engage with him and give him a reason to use that incredible brain. Comstock gets along well with other dogs and is potty trained.

None of these returns are Comstock's fault. He has simply been placed in homes that weren't the right fit for what this breed needs.

We owe it to him to make the next one count.

If you're looking for a loyal, faithful, incredibly intelligent adventure buddy and you're ready to put in the work, Comstock may be your guy. Go to boxersandbuddies.com for more information or to complete an application.

Let's find this boy the home that finally understands him.

💔 Two Hearts Looking for a New Beginning: Meet Homer & Evie

We’re Homer and Evie, and until recently, we thought we knew exactly how our story would end. We had our humans. We had our home. We had each other. We thought we would spend our twilight years together, safe and loved. Then, we lost both of our humans in a tragic accident. In an instant, our whole world changed.

Now we're looking for a new beginning.

We can be adopted together or separately, and while we'd love to find a home where we can stay together, what matters most is that each of us finds a family who understands us and will love us for exactly who we are.

🐾 I'm Homer. I'm about 10 years old, 11lbs and a gentle, somewhat timid little Chihuahua mix guy. New situations can be scary for me, and sometimes I need a little extra time to figure things out. I'm looking for someone special who understands that sometimes the sweetest dogs just need a little time to show you who they really are. Give me patience, consistency and a safe place to land, and you'll get to watch me slowly come out of my shell. There is something pretty amazing about earning the trust of a dog who is learning that it's safe to love again.

🐾 And I'm Evie. I'm a spayed 10 year old, 15 lb Chihuahua mix and a true Velcro girl. My favorite place is right next to my person, preferably with a hand on me at all times. I could happily be petted all day long. And if you stop before I'm ready... I'll let you know. I also have some wonderfully quirky habits. When I'm nervous or excited, I sometimes lick the air. And apparently, hard floors are the perfect place to practice walking backward. 😂 We don't know why I do it. We just know it's part of what makes me, me.

We're both crate trained, potty trained and past our puppy years. We get along well with kids, dogs and people, but we're not cat friendly.

We're not looking for a wild new adventure. We're looking for a comfortable bed. A peaceful home. Someone who will be patient with us. Someone who will love us.

And most importantly, a place where we can finally feel safe again.

They are both eligible for a senior to senior adoption.

🐾 Did You Know? Our Dogs Live in Foster Homes!

One of the things that makes Boxers & Buddies different is that all of our adoptable dogs live in foster homes, not kennels. That means our dogs get to experience what life in a home is really like: routines, structure, people, other dogs, crate training and potty training. It also gives us the opportunity to learn who each dog really is, so we can help find the best possible match.

Take Zealand, for example.

Zealand is a 3.5-year-old Chihuahua mix who may be past the puppy stage, but she definitely hasn't lost her playful side! She loves playing with her resident doggy sister and enjoys hanging out with the other dogs in her foster home, both big and small. She even gets along with the cat!

And when playtime is over? Zealand is a total snuggle bug. She loves her people and is happiest following her foster mom around the house, making sure she's never too far away.

This is exactly why foster homes are so important. They don't just give dogs a safe place to land. They help us get to know them.

And we love that for Zealand.

✨ Maz Got a Glow Up! ✨

A huge thank you to Canine Design Dog Grooming - Midtown and Melinda Pierce for giving our recently adopted Maz a beautiful glow up! 🐾❤️

Canine Design generously offered a free grooming to Maz’s adopter, and we think that is pretty awesome.

Grooming can be an added expense for adopters, especially when they're already taking on the costs of everything a new dog needs. It's also a big expense for the rescue.

Having a local business step up and help our adopters is such a wonderful way to support rescue after the adoption. It truly takes a community!

Thank you, Canine Design and Melinda, for helping Maz look and feel her best! If you're in Reno and your pup needs a little pampering, please consider supporting Canine Design!

🖤 Foster Needed for Brandy 🖤

Brandy is a beautiful 7-month-old Doberman who needs a foster home!

Brandy is a young, energetic girl who is ready for someone to help her learn and continue growing into a wonderful companion. She's dog friendly, but we're not sure how she is with kids or cats. She has not had formal training yet, so her foster will need to be committed to providing structure, consistency and positive reinforcement. She is recovering from an injury to her leg, so she will need to be monitored until it fully heals.

The good news? Brandy is already crate trained and potty trained! 🎉

We're looking for a foster who can provide:
🐾 Daily exercise and mental stimulation
🐾 Structure and consistency
🐾 Positive reinforcement training
🐾 Patience and guidance
🐾 A safe, loving home where she can continue learning

Can you open your home to Brandy?

Meet the Eevee Litter! 🎮 Choose your evolution! 😍

These four adorable little Pokémon came into rescue with their amazing mama, Eevee, and now they're ready to begin their own adventures and find their forever families!

Their mama, Eevee, is a 2 year old, 15 pound Chihuahua mix who has been busy raising her babies. Now that her little crew is old enough to start their next chapter, she's ready for a forever family of her own too. ❤️

We don't know exactly what breeds are mixed into these little mystery pups, but we do know their mama is a Chihuahua mix and that these babies are expected to stay small to medium sized. At 8 weeks old, they're currently around 3.5 pounds and growing!

And because they're the Eevee Litter, each puppy gets to represent one of Eevee's famous evolutions!
💜 Espeon, Male
Sweet little Espeon is ready to use his powers for good... preferably in the form of puppy kisses, zoomies and stealing your spot on the couch.
🔥 Flareon, Female
Our fiery little Flareon is bringing the heat! She's ready to set your heart on fire with puppy kisses, playful antics and enough adorable energy to keep you smiling all day.
🌿 Leafeon, Female
Sweet Leafeon is ready to grow right alongside her forever family. She's curious, playful and ready to explore everything this big world has to offer.
💧 Vaporeon, Male
Cool, calm and ridiculously cute, Vaporeon is ready to make a splash in his forever family's life!

At just 8 weeks old, these babies are at the perfect age to begin learning all about the world. Their forever families should be prepared for all the fun that comes with raising a puppy: potty training, socialization, basic training, chewing, puppy zoomies, patience and plenty of puppy snuggles.

🎮 The Eevee Family
🐾 Eevee | Mama | 2 years old | 15 lbs | Chihuahua mix
💜 Espeon | Male | 8 weeks old
🔥 Flareon | Female | 8 weeks old
🌿 Leafeon | Female | 8 weeks old

Which one will you choose? Your next adventure is waiting. Gotta catch... well, you know the rest. 😉🐾

We’ve been told our rules are too strict. That we ask too many questions. That we should make adoption easier. But here’s the thing: we’re not trying to make adoption easier.

We’re trying to make it right.

Because when a placement doesn’t work, it’s the dog who pays the price (and wow, there's been A LOT of returns).

So we thought we’d share a few of the things we won’t apologize for as a rescue. ❤️🐾
