πŸ’™πŸΎ As Veterinary Technician Week comes to an end, we want to give one more BIG thank you to our amazing veterinary technicians!

From the first patient of the day to the last, our techs are constantly juggling medications, appointments, procedures, bloodwork, anesthesia, client questions, hospitalized patients, and so much more.

A lot of what they do happens behind the scenes, but it makes a HUGE difference in the care our patients receive every day.

We are so grateful for everything they do for our patients, our clients, and our team. ❀️🐾

Thank you, SVH techs! πŸ’™

πŸ’™πŸΎ The People Behind the Scrubs πŸΎπŸ’™

If you’ve spent any time at Suffield Vet, you know our veterinary technicians are a pretty special group.

They know which patients need a little extra patience. They know which dogs are going to try to eat the treats before the exam even starts. They know which cats absolutely do NOT appreciate being told what to do. πŸ˜‚

They celebrate the good days, worry about the tough ones, cheer when a patient comes back feeling better, and somehow remember a million little details about the patients in their care.

They also make us laugh, help each other through crazy days, jump in wherever they’re needed, and keep things moving when the schedule seems determined to do the exact opposite.

Our techs are such a big part of what makes Suffield Vet, Suffield Vet. We’re so grateful for the knowledge, compassion, humor, hard work, and heart they bring to our hospital every day.

Happy Veterinary Technician Week to our amazing SVH tech team. We’re very lucky to have you. πŸ’™πŸΎ

A heads-up for anyone traveling to Suffield Veterinary Hospital over the next few days!

Several road closures and construction projects may affect travel around Suffield:

🚧 Suffield Street: The road is currently closed to through traffic due to a culvert failure. Please follow posted detours.

🚦 Phelps Road: Weekday construction between 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM will require alternating one-lane traffic.

Please plan ahead, allow extra time to get to your appointment, and follow posted detour signs. We recommend checking your route before leaving home!

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We look forward to seeing you and your pets! 🐾

✨ Meet Our Staff: Ali! ✨

Meet Ali, who first joined the SVH family in August 2019 as a receptionist before quickly moving to be a veterinary technician and eventually becoming our Head Technician! 🩺 Ali has always had a passion for healing, and while she jokes that she prefers animals over people, her biggest goal has always been to make sure animals are cared for and have a voice when they need one. ❀️

When asked which patients keep her on her toes the most, Ali didn’t hesitate to say exotics! Their delicate nature and unpredictable movements definitely make them a little more challenging for her, but they also keep her learning and growing as a technician.

Her own pups, Zephyr and Twiggy, are much more her speed and they have no shortage of nicknames! Twiggy answers to Twiggs, Twiggaford, Twiggаroo, The Baby, and Little One, while Zephyr is also known as Zephyr the Heifer, ZephyZoo, Zephy, Wigglebutt, and The Monster (mostly because of his size compared to his bother small stature). 🐾

One of Ali's proudest accomplishments in veterinary medicine was completing her veterinary technician schooling and passing her boards on her very first try! After a long journey to reach that goal, she couldn't have been prouder of herself. πŸŽ“

One of the most unique animals Ali has ever had the opportunity to treat was a cheetah! πŸ† During a two-week trip to South Africa, she had the incredible experience of helping care for and transport a brother and sister cheetah. Once the cheetah was safely sedated by dart, Ali was able to help place a mask and muzzle, remove numerous ticks, and collect a f***l sample to check for internal parasites. She even had the unforgettable opportunity to gently pet the cheetah and see just how big they were compared to her! ❀️ It was an experience she learned so much from and enjoyed every minute of and if she ever gets the opportunity to go back, she says she would be there in a heartbeat!

We are so happy to have Ali as part of the SVH team. She brings just the right amount of organization, good energy, humor, and compassion to every patient, client, and coworker she meets. We are lucky to have her! πŸ’™πŸΎ

🦷🐾 How are your pet's teeth looking?

Dental disease is extremely common in dogs and cats, and it isn't always easy to spot at home.

Things to watch for include:
🦷 Bad breath
🦷 Tartar buildup
🦷 Red or inflamed gums
🦷 Difficulty chewing
🦷 Dropping food
🦷 Changes in eating habits

Regular veterinary exams allow us to monitor your pet's oral health and determine when a professional dental cleaning may be recommended.

When was the last time your pet had their teeth checked? 🐢🐱🦷

🍰🐾 Happy National Dessert Day!

We humans may be celebrating with a little something sweet today, but our pets should stick to their own treats! πŸ˜‚

Remember, many of our favorite desserts contain ingredients that aren't safe for dogs and cats, including chocolate and xylitol.

So go ahead and enjoy that slice of cake… just maybe don't share it with your four-legged sous chef. πŸ˜‰

What is YOUR favorite dessert? πŸͺ🍰🍩

πŸ‘»πŸŽƒ Is your pet dressing up for Halloween?

If your furry friend is joining in on the Halloween fun, make sure their costume:

🐾 Allows them to move comfortably
🐾 Doesn't interfere with breathing, hearing, or vision
🐾 Doesn't have small pieces they could chew or swallow
🐾 Isn't too tight or restrictive

And remember, not every pet enjoys dressing up! A festive bandana, collar, or a simple Halloween photo can be just as cute. 🧑

We'd love to see your Halloween-ready pets! Drop a photo in the comments. πŸ“ΈπŸΆπŸ±
