April is Heartworm Awareness Month 🐾❤️
At Pet Health Center, we believe prevention starts with understanding. Heartworm disease is a serious (and potentially life-threatening) condition caused by parasites that are transmitted through mosquito bites.
Once inside your pet’s body, these microscopic larvae travel through the bloodstream and mature into worms that settle in the heart and lungs. Over time, this can lead to lung disease, damage to the heart, and reduced quality of life.
Some pets may not show symptoms right away, but as the disease progresses, you might notice coughing, low energy, decreased appetite, or weight loss. By the time signs appear, the disease can already be advanced.
While treatment is available for dogs, it can be lengthy and requires careful monitoring. For cats, options are extremely limited—making prevention the safest and most effective choice.
Year-round heartworm prevention and routine testing are key to keeping your pet protected. If you’re unsure where your pet stands, our team at Pet Health Center is here to guide you.
Protect their heart. Protect their life. 💙🐶🐱
