🐾🎀 **PET SAFETY EDUCATION SERIES: ON A LEASH, ON POINT!** 🎀🐾
**Safety. Respect. Responsibility.**
Whether you're walking around the neighborhood, visiting a park, coming into the pet store, or arriving at **Lilah Belle Pet Spa**, keeping your dog **securely on a leash** is one of the simplest ways to help keep them safe.
And let's talk about **leash etiquette**! 🐶
✨ **WHY LEASHES MATTER:**
🐾 **They keep your dog safe.**
A leash can prevent your dog from running into traffic, getting lost, approaching another animal, or getting into a dangerous situation.
🐾 **They protect other pets.**
Not every dog wants to say hello! Some dogs may be nervous, reactive, elderly, recovering from an injury, or simply prefer their personal space.
🐾 **They respect other people.**
Not everyone is comfortable around dogs—and that's okay! Keeping your dog close shows consideration for everyone around you.
🐾 **They give YOU control.**
Even the friendliest dog can become distracted or startled. Having your dog within your control helps you respond quickly when something unexpected happens.
🐾 **And yes, it's often the law.**
Many communities have leash requirements. Being a responsible pet parent means knowing and following the rules where you live.

❤️ **Keep your dog close and controlled.**
A standard 4–6 foot leash is generally ideal for busy areas.
❤️ **ASK BEFORE ALLOWING YOUR DOG TO GREET ANOTHER DOG.**
A simple *"Can they say hi?"* can prevent an uncomfortable or unsafe interaction.
❤️ **RESPECT PERSONAL SPACE.**
If another dog or person is moving away, give them space. They may be asking for it without saying a word.
❤️ **DON'T LET YOUR DOG RUN UP TO OTHER DOGS.**
Even if your dog is friendly, you don't know how the other dog will react.
❤️ **PICK UP AFTER YOUR PET.** 💩
Every time. No exceptions! Keeping our community clean is part of being a responsible pet parent.
❤️ **STAY IN DESIGNATED AREAS.**
Keep your dog on appropriate paths, sidewalks, and pet-friendly areas.
❤️ **BE MINDFUL OF REACTIVE OR NERVOUS DOGS.**
If you see a dog trying to create distance, please allow them that space. A little consideration can make a HUGE difference.

**A retractable leash isn't always the best choice in busy areas.** They can make it harder to quickly control your dog and can create hazards when multiple people and pets are around.
Choose a leash, collar, or harness that is **appropriate for your dog's size, strength, and behavior.**
