Sometimes, we don’t finish a grooming appointment - and that’s okay. 🐱

When that happens, it is always because continuing would not be safe for the cat, most often because they are showing signs of significant stress or their health is becoming a concern.

Our groomers are highly trained in recognizing stress signals in cats. We take breaks, adjust our approach, and never force a cat through a groom just to get it finished.

For some cats, especially during their first haircut, building trust takes time. We may make good progress during one appointment, come back for a second visit, and find that they are ready to let us go further. Sometimes it takes even longer - and that’s okay, too.

If we are still struggling during a second appointment, we may recommend involving your veterinarian to discuss whether medical support could make grooming safer and less stressful.

If your cat already needs medication before grooming, please let us know when booking. We have a process to make sure the entire team is aware, with a reminder sent for the medication time in addition to our normal arrival-window and ETA messages.

The goal isn't simply to get the haircut finished. The goal is a safe, low-stress grooming experience that builds trust over time.

We’d love to hear from you! ❤️ Did your cat need multiple visits for their first groom before they really settled in? Tell us their story! If they're a grooming pro now, we'd especially love to hear about it!

🎉 A big congratulations to Miri! 🎉

After two years with us, Miri has officially made the leap from assistant to groomer! 🐈‍⬛✂️

To celebrate her graduation, we’re offering $20 off Full Monty haircuts and $10 off B***y Call haircuts with Miri for the whole month of September!!!

She’s been training alongside our most experienced groomers for quite some time, and over the past few weeks she’s been putting those skills to work with her own appointments. We’ve been so excited to see her grow into this role and even more excited to hear what her clients have to say.

Here are a few things we’ve been hearing about Miri lately:

🐾 “Very patient and gentle.”

🐾 “She is a naturally kind person, has great energy, and was very professional"

🐾 “Her relaxed demeanor played a big part in our kitties’ reactions to being handled and groomed.”

🐾 “Efficient and patient and skilled!”

🐾 “She was great at guiding me on what to do.”

🐾 And perhaps our favorite: one particularly wiggly cat did the best he’s ever done for a grooming. 😂

Miri has also just made the move from San Marcos to Austin, and she is now our dedicated Austin-area groomer, taking appointments Thursday–Saturday! 🥳

She already has tons of experience and has spent a long time learning from our team; this is far from her first day grooming cats. It’s the next step in a journey she’s been working toward for a while.

If you’d like to meet Miri and give her a congratulations of your own, you can read more about her here:

There’s something we call the “magic appointment.”

A lot of you will have heard us refer to this with your kitty, it usually happens around the third or fourth time we see a cat.

One of the biggest reasons we chose to groom cats in their homes is because cats are different when they’re in a place they know.

A grooming appointment can be a lot for a cat. Getting put in a carrier, riding in the car, being handled by strangers, and then trying to figure out what’s happening in an unfamiliar place can be overwhelming before grooming even begins.

We see that especially with fearful cats and senior cats.

At home, they have their familiar smells, their favorite places, and the people they trust nearby. There’s no carrier ride, no waiting room, no strange environment to adjust to. We can take our time, let them watch us, and give them a chance to decide that we’re not there to hurt them.

The first appointment might still be pretty hard. They’re scared, they don’t know us, and they’re not sure what we’re going to do. We go slowly, give them breaks when they need them, and try to leave the appointment having earned a little bit of trust.

The second appointment is often a little better.

And then somewhere around that third or fourth visit, something just clicks.

The cat recognizes us. They know the routine. They remember that we came into their home, handled them gently, and left them feeling better. They may still have opinions about the grooming (because they’re still cats) but the fear starts to disappear.

That’s the magic appointment.

Sometimes that means we don't get a perfect groom the first time. We’re okay with that. Our goal isn’t to overpower a cat into cooperating. It’s to build enough trust that eventually, grooming becomes something they can handle without being afraid of us.

For an older cat, that relationship can be especially important. Senior cats may not tolerate change, unfamiliar surroundings, or extensive handling the way they once did. Being able to stay in their own home lets us work with them where they’re comfortable and adjust to what they need that day.

And honestly, watching that transformation is one of our favorite parts of this job.

The cat who once hid under the bed when we arrived eventually walking over to say hello? The cat who terrified even us at their first appointment cooperating when we need to access their belly? The tense little ball learning to stretch out their leg for us to get a matt from their thigh?

That’s the good stuff. ❤️

I’ve been working toward this next step for some time, and I’m excited to finally share it with you all. 😽

Hey fellow cat lovers,
Since 2007, I’ve had the joy and honour of serving the cats of Central Texas. As Carolyn’s Mobile Cat Grooming approaches our 20th year, I’m making a few changes to how I work so I can better support my team and refocus on the elderly, severely matted, and special needs cats who require more time and care — the ones I haven’t been able to serve as fully as I used to.

What started as a small skill I could use to help my community has grown into something far bigger than I ever imagined. To keep everything running smoothly for our clients and team, I’ll be grooming fewer days each month, focusing mainly on Wednesdays and occasional Saturdays for specialty or emergency appointments.

My amazing team’s schedule and service quality will remain the same, and I’ll still be behind the scenes every day making sure things run beautifully.

Thank you for being part of this journey — your trust means the world to me. You can read my full letter here:

Yesterday was a tough one. We care for a lot of senior kitties, and saying goodbye is never easy. On top of that, we met with a client whose friend recently lost her cat due to lily exposure, which is something that is so preventable, yet still not widely known.

It breaks my heart every time I hear stories like this. As a plant lover myself, with a home full of greenery (and seeing even more in my clients’ homes), I wish the dangers of certain plants were clearly labeled. Unfortunately, they often aren’t.

So I put together a detailed, easy‑to‑read guide with photos covering toxic and non‑toxic plants for cats, including the ones that are deadly, the ones that just cause tummy upset, and the ones that are totally safe.

If you have plants at home, or ever receive bouquets, this is worth a quick read. It could save a life. 💛🐾
