Neptune, the dumped baby rat, went to his forever home today 😍 He will be living with other ratties also from our rescue so he'll have lots of friends. Thank you to our foster Cheyenne Skye for taking such good care of him and getting him socialized. He was pretty shy at first. We couldn't be happier for the little fellow!

These little dudes are settling in. Don't let their cuteness fool you. One already got me with his chompie chompies (teeth 😂). He was a sneaky shark but that's okay. That's why I do what I do, to help these guys learn they are safe and there are humans they can trust and that will love them (whether they bite me or not lol). 💕

This was after playtime on my bed. They retreated to their carrying basket that I left on the bed for them. Playtime is exhausting.

We have some very special ratties coming in today. Some are fearful and some are biters. These are my favorite rats to work with. They will not be up for adoption as they are going to need a lot of time to decompress and learn people are okay. I don't adopt out biters even if I get them "rehabbed," because I don't know if they will regress in a new environment and these boys clearly have been traumatized/PTSD. One of the boys is very human and rat aggressive. We're hoping his neuter kicks in sooner than later to get those hormones down so we can get him some rat friends. Thank you to Central Texas Rat Rescue for getting them vetted and to their fosters who started to work with them. More to come on these fellows.

I need a foster commitment to take in two females. One will likely need eye meds (maybe surgery not sure) based on pics. I'll get them to the vet and can show how to give meds. No other rodents in the home. Please message if you are interested and in the San Antonio area.

Another baby rat dumped outside we took in earlier this week. Welcome to rescue little fellow. Thank you to Cheyenne for fostering and helping the little guy get socialized.

(He's in a hospital bin tonight as I just picked him up from his foster to take him to the vet tomorrow morning)

We also had two females come in from a shelter. I will be making a post about them later. I'm hoping to have them available for adoption in the next several weeks so keep an eye on our page for updates.

Help! I REALLY REALLY REALLY need quarantine fosters within 30 mins of north San Antonio. Even though I'm "closed," rescues are really never actually closed unfortunately.

No young kids (because I don't always know how a rat will react, I like to get rats to foster right away to protect our permanent residents), no dogs that receive bordetella vaccines, no other rodents in the home. These are requirements for safety reasons.

Must be able to give meds in the event rats get sick. This is important because if rats get sick they cannot come back to me unless it's an extenuating circumstance and defeats the purpose of quarantining. Taking back sick rats jeapordizes the rats here. Im happy to show how to give meds.

Must be responsive to check-ins and provide updates. Fostering is very rewarding AND you get to name your fosters! Everything is provided.

Email me at [email protected] if interested.

I'm getting inundated with surrender requests because college/school is starting soon. I'm getting on my soapbox again...

Plenty of people take their rats when they go to college, find housing that allows them. Plenty of people keep their rats when the kids go back to school. Going to college or back to school isn't a surprise, you know it's coming. Have a plan in place or responsibly re-home your rats yourselves because you know when school starts, you have time. Waiting until the last minute doesn't mean rescues are responsible for taking over YOUR responsibilities. Rats live about three years tops (if you're lucky). They are one of the most non-committal pet in terms of lifespan so I really don't get it. And for parents saying, "my kids lost interest" or "they are involved in sports, cheerleading, band" or whatever it may be, "so they don't spend time with them", this is an excellent time to teach your kids that animals aren't disposable and to teach them commitment. They'll be better adults for it and as the parent, you need to be prepared to take care of them because I don't know of any kids who fully take care of themselves and yet, are expected to fully care for and clean and feed other living beings.

I personally don't run my rescue for these purposes. I focus on the most vulnerable and, "my kids got bored" or "I'm going to college" doesn't fit the criteria for rescue. You made the commitment so please be responsible and find your animals a new home instead of asking us to take up valuable resources for rats that need us more. Or better yet, please keep them.

EDIT: EVERYONE IS PREADOPTED 🥳

Mom and babies arrived safely from the Oklahoma shelter thanks to one of our fosters, Cheyenne!

They will be transferred to Central Texas Rat Rescue by Crystal V (thank you so much!) as I just had back surgery two weeks ago and ran into some complications with that. I'll be later assisting them by taking some of the more hormonal bitey boys that were dumped, once I'm more recovered. Teamwork makes the dream work!

We're covered! Thank you everyone who offered to help ❤️

UPDATE: I have someone who can do a San Antonio to New Braunfels leg of the trip. Can anyone do New Braunfels to Cedar Park and then Cedar Park to New Braunfels?

Transport needed!

Gas can be reimbursed. Rat in San Antonio needs to be dropped off in Cedar Park next Wednesday morning, the 22nd, and picked back up in the afternoon and brought back to San Antonio same day. Will also reimburse lunch for having to hang out in Austin.
