🐶 Myth or Truth: “A tired dog is a well-trained dog.”

The answer: MOSTLY MYTH! 🐾

Exercise is important, but it doesn’t teach manners. Here’s why:

🐾 Exercise doesn’t teach skills. A dog can run for an hour and still jump on guests, pull on the leash, or ignore recall. Those come from training.

🐾 Stamina builds. The more you exercise a dog, the more they can handle, so you may need longer and longer sessions to wear them out.

🐾 Overexcited isn’t tired. Some dogs get wired after intense play and have a harder time settling.

🐾 Mental work counts. Sniff walks, puzzle toys, and training games can tire a dog out faster than a run.

The best combo: physical exercise + mental stimulation + consistent training. 💪

🎃🐶 Halloween With Your Dog: Training Edition

Halloween can be a great training opportunity or a lot for your pup. Here’s how to know what’s right for your dog:

🐾 Trick-or-treating: Only bring your dog along if they’re comfortable around excited kids in costumes. If so, practice heel and sit-stay from house to house beforehand.

🐾 Answering the door: If your dog’s door manners are solid, it’s great practice! If not, keep them in their crate with a peanut butter Kong, close the doors and windows, and play calming music. Setting the candy bowl on the porch helps too.

🐾 Costume parties: Masks and strangers can be a lot. Let your dog meet the “monsters” slowly and on leash, and try dressing up yourself ahead of time so they get used to it.

🐾 Pet costumes: Only dress your dog up if they’re relaxed, not frozen with fear. Watch for small parts they could swallow and keep an eye on them the whole time.

🐾 Candy: Chocolate is toxic to dogs. When the kids dump out their loot, keep your dog in a sit-stay, down-stay, or crate.

🐾 Decorations: Startling props, glow sticks, fake webs, and candles can scare or tempt a curious dog. Place them thoughtfully and watch your dog’s reaction.
