IT’S HERE! Our new website is LIVE!

It’s been 17 years since we launched our website, and a lot has changed at Fences For Fido since then! We’ve been pretty busy doing the work, building fences, helping dogs get the veterinary care they need, supporting families, and growing our Circle of Care.

Along the way, with the help of so many wonderful volunteers, donors, partners, and supporters, Fences For Fido has grown into so much more than we could have ever imagined.

Then we looked up and realized our front door wasn’t keeping up with everything you’ve helped us become. So we gave it a whole new look, and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with you!

Our new website makes it much easier to sign up for a volunteer build, meet the dogs and families at the heart of our work, explore our programs, and find ways to get involved. And it finally brings the full picture of Fences For Fido together in one place.

We’re beaming today, and so grateful to everyone who helped bring this website to life and tell the story of the work we do together.

Sweet Papi is at Oregon Humane Society!

You might remember our Marshmallow dogs, a family of eleven sweet, shy dogs loved by all of us at Fences For Fido. Two dogs had grown into eleven, and their family was facing a difficult situation with no easy answers.

Fences For Fido spayed and neutered all eleven dogs, and we built a fenced yard. Oregon Humane Society stepped in to help at two different points in that journey, taking dogs into their care and giving them the time and support they needed to learn to trust and find loving homes.

More recently, the family found themselves in another difficult spot. Papi’s barking brought repeated visits from animal control, and the family grew worried about further involvement from law enforcement. They were trying to do the right thing for Papi and their family, but ultimately had to make the heartbreaking decision to rehome him.

Today, Eileen brought Papi to OHS. She helped transport some of the very first Marshmallow pups, so it feels especially meaningful that she’s bringing the last one, too.

We are so grateful to OHS for the compassion they’ve shown these dogs and their family. They’ve given these shy dogs the time and care they needed—and understood that behind every one of them is a family who loves them.

Help Us Reach More Dogs in Centralia & Shelton, WA!
Fences For Fido is looking for a few volunteers in a few of the more remote areas of our service area! We’re looking for volunteers who can make a short home visit with families in Centralia and Shelton, WA, who have asked Fences For Fido for help. We’ll provide everything you might need in advance, so you feel comfortable. But most importantly, we’re looking for someone who loves dogs, is willing to meet people where they are, and has a little time to help us reach families who may not otherwise have someone nearby to turn to. If you live in or near Centralia or Shelton and would like to help, we’d love to hear from you! ❤️

Rosie, Doby, Diggles, Lilith, and Zephyr are ready to trade their chains for a safe place to run and play! This family of rescue dogs spends several hours each day tethered, and some occasionally get loose and wander.
Join us in Westport to build a fence that gives these five pups room to explore safely—and enjoy life together.
No tools or experience needed! Dress for the weather and bring a water bottle. Volunteers must be 18 or older.

Nico, Zoe, Emma, and Hawk are ready for room to run! Nico is a rescue husky, who spends many hours tethered outdoors. He is full of boundless energy and deserves to be unchained. His siblings mostly stay indoors, but sometimes they get loose and run. Join us for a fun fence build, where we will bring safety to these sweet dogs.
This will be a big fence, so we need a few helping hands!
No experience needed! Please wear weather-appropriate clothes, bring a pair of work gloves, some water, and the energy to change the lives of this fur family.

🚚 Volunteers Needed: Amazon Pet Food Donation Pickup
Date: Saturday, October 10
Pickup time: 11:15 a.m.
Location: Amazon facility in Salem
Delivery: Love Our City in NE Portland
Time commitment: Approximately 2–3 hours
🚚We’re looking for a volunteer with a truck, van, or other vehicle with plenty of cargo space to help pick up a large donation of pet supplies from Amazon and deliver it to our Portland-area community partner.
💪The donation can be substantial—typically 40–50 bags of pet food and supplies, totaling around 1,500 lbs. Volunteers should be comfortable loading bags weighing approximately 20–30 lbs.
📦After loading, you’ll transport the donation to Love Our City, where it will help provide much-needed pet food to families in the community.

This guardian of Max and Elsa reached out after trying everything she could think of to keep her dogs safely at home - leashes, invisible fencing, training tools, and making sure her dogs were fixed. But without a secure yard, her dogs kept wandering toward neighbor's chickens and a nearby country road where cars move far too fast.
After one of her younger dogs began getting into trouble, she made the heartbreaking decision to place him with another family because she didn’t want him labeled unfairly or put at risk.
Now, with two beloved dogs still at home, she has been standing outside in all kinds of weather just so they can safely potty or spend a little time outdoors. As a single adult with five children and limited income, replacing the worn fencing, adding gates, and securing the yard on her own simply wasn’t possible.
She didn’t want chains.
She wanted safety.
Fences For Fido stepped in to help repair and complete the fence this family needed -giving these dogs a secure place to stay home, move freely, and remain part of the family who loves them.
This is what safe freedom can look like: fewer worries, fewer hard choices, and dogs right where they belong. 💙🧡

Together with Companion Animal Medical Project- CAMP, Brightside Animal Center, Humane Society of Central Oregon, First Nations Veterinary, and Dr. Cierra Buer, we met with Senator Anthony Broadman about something we see every day in our work: families love their animals deeply, but too often, access to basic veterinary care is out of reach.

BrightSide welcomed us with coffee, donuts, a tour, and the chance to meet some of the adoptable dogs and cats in their care, including sweet and fluffy NANOOK!

We’re grateful to Senator Broadman for listening, for supporting the incredible organizations already doing this work every day, and for thinking with us about what more we can do for families across Oregon.

R***r needed more room to be the big, beautiful dog he is. 💙🐾

This husky/malamute boy was spending long hours each day in a small kennel on the front porch because his family did not have fencing. It was the safest option they had, but R***r is smart, strong, and determined — and he had already found ways to escape more than once.

So the Fido Team showed up.

Volunteers built R***r a safe fenced space and delivered a doghouse of his own, giving him room to move, stretch, play, and enjoy fresh air without being confined to such a small area. His sibling, Louie, will benefit too — with more space for exercise, playtime, and companionship.

This build was especially meaningful because it was sponsored and dedicated In Memory of Clifford Murphy.

Clifford was a large, sweet, gentle Labradoodle who was loved deeply and lost far too soon to cancer. His family is heartbroken, and we are honored that Clifford’s memory will live on through safe freedom for R***r and Louie.

A fence. A doghouse. Room to play.
And a loving tribute to a very special dog.

Come say hi to Fences For Fido at the Newfie X-Travaganza Giant Breed Event on September 26 from 11:30–3:30 at Brewing Co. Taproom in Washougal, WA, hosted by National Newfoundland Rescue.

This family-friendly event is open to the public and especially fun for giant breed lovers and their well-mannered pups.

We’ll be there sharing Fido love, meeting fellow dog-loving folks, and talking about what safe freedom means for the dogs we serve.
